Longshot 2 1/2" 16 gauge
I have a heap of longshot powder that I no longer used for 28 gauge. I have what appears to be a nice 1 ounce 16 ga. 2 1/2 load but I was wondering if anyone cared to share a 7/8 ounce load if they have one. Could not find one on 16 ga.com
Thanks |
I meant 16ga. 2 1/2" using longshot powder. I want to use it up.
|
I searched the 16 ga spreadsheets and 16 reloaders group for 7/8 oz loads with Longshot and 2 1/2" Cheddites and came up empty. Sorry
|
If your currently using Longshot in a 1oz 16ga load I wouldn't think you would need to change anything to drop to a 7/8th's oz load. You could always send them to Tom Armbruster for pressure testing just to be sure.

I have had good success with the 1 oz. 7625 load recipe you gave me and did as you just suggested and dropped the 7/8 oz. load in it also. Worked real well. Same wad. The crimp is a little indented but closed firm and fine. I'll try with the long shot. I also will try the polywad spreader disk in the 7/8 oz. charge. I don't want to hammer that nice little 0 frame P grade too much. Eric |
Rich,
I was thinking the same thing. The pressure should drop a little and velocity increase alittle. May need a card wad or a cheerio filler to get a good crimp. This powder availability thing is crazy--a local store has several 8 lbers of 20/28 and a few 1 lb bottles. Cabelas had 2 bottles of AA Handicap as their only powder. |
My local sporting goods store just got in a bunch of powder's but no 7625. They have lots of 1lb cans of PB, 4 & 8lbs of 700X and a good supply of rifle powder.
When you use that load and go to 7/8ths it's best to use the 7/8ths wad or a Cheerio, I like the Honey Nut ones:rotf: |

Are you referring to the the SG-16 short version wad? I read here that they are discontinuing the SR7625. Be tough to find a go to powder that is as nice as that. Cheerios will work! |
Yes its the same wad your using but shorter. They are made by Galandi, I just ordered a couple thouseand of both sizez from Ballitic Products. i use the Cheerio as well it's just an additional step.
