Dent Removal
 

I have a set of Damascus barrels with a few dents in them. Can anyone give me a ball park figure of what they paid to have theirs removed, and recommend a smith to do it?

It generally is not an expensive job. Maybe $30 a dent? Depending on what you call a "dent". The most important decision is to choose the BEST 'smith to do the work. It's not a complicated job, but an easy one to muck up. If I were you, I'd send the barrels to Kirk Merrington. Check his website:

I bought a GH Damascus that I thought was toast. It had not just one dent but multiple ripples all together in the thinnest part of the barrels.

I sent it to Dan Morgan and I was impressed with the work he did, and would not hesitate to send anything to him. In Vermont.

I know that some smiths can charge up to $50 per dent. I have one of the hosford multi guage sets and when I do them I usually just see how much time I have invested in doing the work. Especially if there are several to remove. I would think anyone is going to charge at least $25 for one if they need to get the tools out and do it.
And surely the severity of the dent is going to make a difference in the cost as well.

Another thing to consider is if you are going to get the barrels refinished or not or if they will be left as is. I know that Dale Edmonds includes all polishing and dent work in his refinishing price, so in cases like that it is best to leave them be and let the refinisher take care of them.

I will get the barrels refinished this summer, so maybe I'll wait and have them done by whoever does them. I need to find a GH stock in frame size 1.

Finding a stock is one thing haveing it fit can be another matter altogether.

I also have one of the Hosford tools. I bought from Jon last summer at the southern. Its a pretty nice tool.
