Need help

I have an early Parker Laminated double barrel gun with no serial number. The only visible number is located on one barrel: P 895

It also has a Stag head on the but plate. I am trying to date this gun. It belonged to an older family friend's great grandfather, which could date it to 1800's.

Any information you can provide would be helpful.

Thank you,
Cole

Sorry if this sounds like a wise guy comment,.........but are there any markings that clearly show or indicate that it was mfg. by Parker Bros. in Meriden,CT. The lack of a ser. # and a stag buttplate might send up some red flags. Look carefully at the top rib for an inscription of some type. Just trying to help. Mark

There should also be some #'s or Patent dates on the bbl. flats and the water table. M

Taken from our FAQ section:

There are other shotguns with the name Parker on them. For the most part they were affordable utility shotguns of their day. Most were well used and will appear in poor condition today. Your shotgun is not a Parker Bros. shotgun if it is marked by any of these makers from the U.S. or Belgian:
  • C. Parker & Co (Belgian)
  • E.D. Parker (Belgian)
  • Field Parker & Son. E. D. Parker (Belgian)
  • Parker-Smith-Williams
  • Parker Trap Gun
  • T. Parker (Belgian)
  • T. Parker New York (Crescent Fire Arms)
  • Thomas Parker
  • W.Parker New Pin Fire
If your shotgun is marked Parker Bros. or is not listed above, look here for more identifying information.

Thank you for your info. I have taken some photos to see if it can help to better identify this gun.

This gun states Parker only....
Any additional info would be great.

Thank you,
Cole

It carries Birmingham proof marks. E.D. Parker shotguns with English proofmarks were listed in the 1895 Clabrough & Golcher catalog.
