Rib Matting

Photos of various forms of rib matting are provided for those viewers interested in such details. Meriden/Aubrey rib matting is very close to Parker rib matting but not identical, as the Parker matting was more "squiggles" per measurement than Meriden/Aubrey.

Parker, Meriden, Aubrey, and Remington barrels/ribs are obvious. The last two photos are of Lefevers, first a custom grade then an E with chain.

Bruce, and all, please refer to Parker Pages Volume 20, Summer 2013, Issue 2 in the article submitted by Dave Suponski "The Machining of the Parker Gun Barrel" wherein rib matting is discussed on page 39.

Thanks for the eye candy Bruce. I just love that Remington quail after that bug.

The rib shown in the last photo is truly beautiful. What gun is that Bruce?

Bill Murphy 12-03-2013 09:00 AM

Edgar, that appears to be the Lefever rib.

The first Lefever has an interesting pattern for the barrels, what might it be called?

Bruce Day 12-04-2013 08:04 AM

Matt, I believe this is a laminated pattern. Perhaps Dr. Drew Hause can identify it.

Gary Carmichael Sr 12-04-2013 08:24 AM

Looks like laminated to me too! Gary

Beautiful guns!

I believe you're right Bruce. Parker Bros used a similar Laminated in some higher grade hammerguns. Take a look at "a friend's" Grade-4 that he got out of New Hampshire that was on display in Louisville at the gun show at the time of the 2011 annual meeting. Very similar in pattern.
