wear plate

would a barrel with out a wear plate (barrel made before wear plates) fit a gun that has the 1906 type wear plate on the barrel lug?? :corn:

If its the 1905 flat wedge bolt plate, not the 1910, it may fit. Better measure first.

So what do you intend to do about the mating bolt?

That is the 2nd type not the 1st, the 1st type from 05 to 1910 does not have that step in it, 1st is flat like the 1904 or earlier barrel lug.

The 1905 - 1910 style wear plate barrels SHOULD interchange with pre 1905 barrels. The locking bolts and other parts are the same. There was no intened design change in that wear plate other than to provide a hardened surface for the bolt to bite against.

Scott, the only problem you may encounter, presuming every other aspect of the barrels is a good fit to the frame, is that the wear plate area of the lug will likely need some fine filing so that the lever will come around into an acceptable 'closed' position. Or it may need to be welded up and then filed.

I just completed fitting a set of 2-Frame 10 ga. Damascus barrels to my 2-Frame 12 ga. DH and I used the smoke method of determining the high spots that needed to be very carefully filed. I'm glad I brought it to David T. to get me started in the right direction with fitting these barrels.
