16 gauge RST
I am getting set up to load RST 16 ga. 2 1/2" loads this winter. I have heard that the SG16 from Ballistics may bee too long for 7/8 oz. they do advertise it for 1oz and 7/8. Does anyone use this wad for 7/8 in this hull successfully? Is there a recommended substitute realily available? I believe I have the 1 oz load covered.
Thanks |
Look into the DR16 from Downrange. Not sure but maybe Rich (COB), who only loads 2.5", could chime in when he comes off his deer stand today.

There is now an SG 16 short wad that is supposed to work better in short shells. I have a bag but have not used them yet. Ballistically, they claim it makes no difference in pressures, velocity, etc, but works better with short shells.

I have used the Basllistic products wad exclusively for years without any problem. Daryl sent me some of the DR16 wads and they worked nice as well esp for 3/4 oz loads.

Great. Thanks to all. Looks like I'm good to go for both 1 oz and 7/8 oz. time to get reloading and build up the inventory.

gman,
The sg16 wad will work fine in the 2 1/2 hull for a 7/8 load . I have loaded several thousand of them with no problems . The dr16 wad is a great for 3/4 oz loads in a 2 1/2 " hull but it can be tricky to load 7/8 oz with that wad in the short hulls. |
Eric;
Give the 3/4oz. load a try. I promise you you won't be able to tell the difference in performance between that and the 7/8oz. loads and with the cost of lead nowadays it's a win/win. Good luck. |
I have been loading the RST hulls with 7/8 oz with the SG short wads and 7625 and they crimp up well. JH

SR7625 is a great powder, love the smell.:) I use it my 7/8oz loads also . 19.5g also makes a great 1oz using the sg16s wad in the 2 1/2 cheddite hull.
|
Mark - so you use the 19.5g on the 7/8 or the 1 oz?
Thanks |
