S/N 11922 is now serviceable
My lifter had a little wiggle between the frame and barrels. It wasn't much but
I could feel it by twisting the gun with both hands. I recently read a thread about shimming the hinge point. It sounded like exactly what my lifter needed. I acquired some stainless shim stock in .002", .003", .004" and .005" thickness. I started with the .002" and cut a piece, formed it around pencil to match the radius of the hinge pin. I applied some machine oil and laid the shim in place on the hinge pin, reassembled the gun and VIOLA she locks up tight with no more wiggle. I'm very happy with these results and very much look forward to shooting my oldest Parker bros. shotgun. Best regards, Jeff Bonadurer |
Good for you. I just acquired a fixer-upper Parker and hope to bring it back to its former glory.

Sometimes as little as a piece of paper will do the trick as a temp fix. A metal shim would be more perm.

Mills,
What did you get? Can you post a photo or two ? Best regards, Jeff |
I got an O grade hammer gun 12 gauge. It is missing a screw and supposedly has bad barrels. I hope to have it in hand this weekend. The barrels probably need a trip to Dale Edmonds or somebody like that. Hopefully, some redneck engineering can replace the screw.

depending on your "redneck engineering" skill contact Tom Carter - a board member - about the screw |
Thanks. I may do just that, once I see the gun in hand.

I have used steel shim to tighten up loose guns, but after I fit the shim i solder the shim to the hook, that stays fixed for years, i also weld the hook sometimes

My New Year's resolution is no more hammer guns that need about $200 before I can shoot them and more fluid steel I can shoot as soon as I take them out of the box.

Old Parkers are like an aging lady with good bones and a great heart. I just can't abandon them. David
