Tom Gibbon Has Passed
 

Our friend, stockmaker Craig Libhart, posted on Dave Weber's site that Tom Gibbons passed away at 80 years old.

I had delt with him , so I won't make a comment either.

Same here so no comment. My condolences to his family.

only knew the man by his reputation...never did business with him.

hope we all make it to 80...my personal goal is 88, same as my grandpa hosee.

Bought my first 32" Parker from him in the early 90's. Turned out to be an all original double trap with double triggers and it lettered through the G&H website via Bob Beach to a famous Marylander, a Mr. David K.E. Bruce. He has a laundry list of accomplishments, not the least of which was heading up the OSS in London during WW2, hit the beach at Normandy on the second day, Ambassador to England , France and Germany, then married the richest woman in America. None other than Ailsa Mellon. There is much, much more on this fascinating gentleman but the bottom line is if Tom Gibbon had known any of this I would have paid double what I paid. He was a wheeler-dealer but sometimes a real gem would slip through his hands. At the time noone wanted 32" guns so Tom was willing to deal. All in all Tom was an OK guy if you knew what you wanted and he had it. May he RIP.

Daryl, I doubt that Tom knew the provenance of the only gun he ever sold me either. It was owned by Bill Moore, editor and publisher for many years of Sportsmen's Review, predecessor of Trap and Field. It is engraved with his name and probably presented to him on some occasion. The price was $225.00. It was the first time Tom ever asked me if a price was too high. The gun is a beautiful prewar Model 12 Trap Grade.
