Parker vice

I have a lead on a parker vice. What is the going price on these?

Rick Losey 10-18-2013 07:40 AM

going price on Parker vice --oohh - the sky's the limit :nono:

on a Parker vise - that is a little less risky :rotf:

Tough question. Sorta like saying "What's a Chevy worth?". There were about a bazillion different Parker vices made. Folks a lot more knowledgeable than me can give you a rough estimate if you can post pictures and/or a description, including model number

ebay has a bag of them for sale. See if you can see your vise there.

Danny McHugh 10-18-2013 08:59 AM

I went on Ebay and there are plenty of parker vices with a big spread in prices. I wish the shotguns were that cheap!:)

What model is it? The bigger ones go for more obviously. And the better condition, the more as well. I recently purchased a model 63-1/2. I have seen very nice examples for $75 plus. But mine is a working model and I paid $35 shipped for it.

The hardest thing with looking for them on line is shipping costs.

Shipped????? WOW!

I'd hate to have to pay the freight on the one we had in the Silent Auction this year. I think that one weighed about sixty pounds.

The book says an 88 is 71 pounds. My back says it's more.
There were over 200 variations, but they changed the model numbers of several, so 200 may be high.
The 970 series are the best ones for durability and usefulness. Those were all swivel base model with hex wrench swivel lock handles.
Make sure there isn't a crack on the top of the stock, running fore and aft; very common. Always check that the jaws close up parallel.

The 974 is a very nice general purpose shop vise. Can someone post a link to the website that shows about the largest assorment I have ever seen? Don't remember the name of the site.

edgarspencer 10-20-2013 04:21 PM

I agree Bill, The 974 (4"), 973 1/2 (3.5") and 973 (Take a guess) are the best of them.

This list is by no means complete, but about the best one on the web. It doesn't list any of the woodworking vises.
