Hello from Colorado

Hi, Members,

My name is Daniel (Dan) Nix. One of my earliest memories involved a Parker Trojan 12 gauge when I was about 14 years old. A friend/mentor owned the Trojan and would occasionally bring it with us when we went afield. On this occasion, he allowed me to carry the Trojan while walking across an open field. As we walked, two sparrows flew overhead. My friend quickly told me to shoot the sparrows. I raised the Trojan, fired instinctively and, as the two shots rang out, both birds dropped. Nobody was more impressed than I was. That was about 1960 and I'm still impressed.

I now own two Winchester/Parker reproductions in 20 and 28 gauge and I've downed pheasants with both of them. I recently purchased a 10 gauge Parker lifter model that was made in 1882. I've fired it with RST ammunition and have yet to miss a clay pigeon with it. In a couple of weeks, I'll use it to hunt pheasants. The serial number is 24758. I will sent photographs soon. Thank you.

Welcome aboard, Dan. Get a letter on that gun to find out some interesting facts about its history. Now you get to meet some of the wonderful people on the forum I have told you about.

Are you two related???

Daniel L. Nix 10-18-2013 12:48 PM

Yes. Dennis is my twin brother.

Dean Romig 10-18-2013 12:53 PM

Aha! That explains it.

Daniel L. Nix 10-18-2013 01:06 PM

Hmmm. Would that be a good or a bad thing? Actually, I have a lot to learn from him about Parker shotguns. He tends to be my current "go to" guy for Parkers. I'm hoping to learn a lot from you guys on this forum.

Dean Romig 10-18-2013 01:18 PM

Even the members with two-digit Member numbers continue to learn. It is an on-going process... we never say "never" and we don't ever stop learning.

Dennis V. Nix 10-18-2013 01:38 PM

Dean,

We look very much alike and when we were in the USMC together for a while we met another Marine who asked if we were twins. We answered in the affirmative. His next question was, Are you brothers? We just sort of shook our heads and walked away.

I am trying to get Dan to join me in driving to Tupelo, MS to visit Charlie Cleveland. Maybe in the Spring. I want to meet Charlie, shoot his 8 gauge, taste his wife's biscuits, and maybe talk him into coming to Colorado to hunt big mule deer.

Welcome! Good story got to like them Trojans.

Daniel L. Nix 10-18-2013 03:38 PM

Thank you, Eldon. It is a great memory from a very long time ago. I wish I had that old Trojan now. I wouldn't recognize it from any other Trojan but it sure pointed and carried well.
