can it be saved?
I was in my LGS on Sat and they had a Parker single barrel trap gun SC grade.
It dates 1917. Screws are all messed up, wood is nice just needs cleaning, bore is nice. Locks up tight with 32" barrel. BUT, whoever had it, tapped the end of the barrel and screwed in an extended choke! Is there anyway to save the barrel? I guess cutting 2" off gets rid of the screw in choke but then how much of the original choke is in the barrel? And I don't like the idea of cutting the barrel. ANyway to save this gun? thanks, Neil |
talk to briley. ask for steve powers (713) 932-6995
they can convert screw chokes back to "fixed" chokes without cutting the barrels off. no big deal for them |
Some gunsmiths can sleeve the choke. The way they do it is to screw in a very thin choke. It is soldered in place. Then it is bored to correct size. I have seen the finished product. Very hard to tell unless you know it is there and look hard. You can usually see it at the muzzle because the choke is usually a different color metal compared to he barrel. Usually can't tell by looking down the barrel from the breech end

Screw in chokes on vintage guns are just plain wrong in my opinion.

Good luck saving the gun, BTW

Thanks for the suggestions.

I hope the price isn't too high. It might be a good safemate to my SC Cutts Compensator gun.
