Spreader Inserts

I'm contemplating loading some of my Short 10's with #8's and the spreader insert inside . Any of you tried this ?

I was hoping it might open my pattern a bit as this guns choked rather tight . I was looking at the inserts BPI sells .

Craig,

I haven't been a member of the forum for too long but my understanding is most forum members go for head shots out to 60 yards when using tightly choked guns. Of course I could be mistaken (or joking).

The X-Stream inserts sold by Ballistic Products opened the pattern in my Rem '94 10ga from 93% to 57% at 40 yards. I used the same components with a 1 1/8 #6 but adding the X-Stream insert. The pattern was relatively even, the choke is .046.

I wanted them for skeet and possibly a rabbit or two !

At present with the W&C I'll shoot 23 or 24 in a round of skeet with the gun but it's generally a big ink ball in the sky when you hit with that gun .

So I usually load 1 1/4 ounce with a 16 gauge 1/4" wad in the bottom of the SP-10 shotcup and an overshot wad . I can either leave the wads and reduce to 1 1/8 or take out the two wads and stay at 1 1/4 ounces shot ?

Actually the idea of dropping to 1 1/8 sounds pretty good .
