Trojan barrel sets

I have a 12ga Trojan that has two sets of barrels with matching serial numbers. Is that common?

Jerry Harlow 09-19-2013 09:10 PM

Bill,

Uncommon enough in other grades but I would say very uncommon for a Trojan. Trojans were a utility gun as they were the lowest priced Parkers. Are there two forends is the big question?

Are the barrels stamped with a 1 on one set and a 2 on the second set? On higher grades this stamp is on the forend lug.

There is only one forearm, but it has the same serial number. There are no numbers on the forearm lug.

The gun has lost any collector value. The butt stock was replaced as the original was in sad shape (unusable). Somewhere along the line, I believe that one of the barrels (the longest one) was cut off such that it is the same as the other. One set appears to be IC and Full; the second set appears to be Full and Ex Full.

The gun was originally bought by a family member and handed down through the generations. I purchased it from the family, and I intend to hunt with it and shoot sporting clays. My intent to learn about the two barrels is to satisfy my curiosity as I always thought that Trojans were made without frills and without many options. Maybe there were a few exceptions.

Does the stamping font and size match on both barrels and also the other parts?

The stamping on both barrels appear identical. I am no expert by any means, but the barrels look to be of the same age and make.

A customer could special order a Trojan with extra barrels or it could have been sent back at a later date. There may be records available on it's serial number that might address your question.

Request a PGCA letter if your gun is in the realm of order book research. That would be roughly 186,000 range or less.

The serial number indicates the gun was made in 1912. How do I find out if this was a special order or a later addition?
