Gunsmith to do Parker Hammer gun restoration

I am new to the form and I am investigating for a friend, where she can get
her grandfathers Parker restored. I am not familiar with any Parker gunsmiths in Dallas that repair or restore these guns. She is very particular about this gun and wants it to done professionally. She does not intend to shoot it, but wants the gun in shooting condition with the entire gun restored.
The serial number of the gun is 49486. I believe it has twisted barrels. Can anyone provide me with a gunsmith that does this type of work. She prefers the Dallas, Texas area.

Thank you

I would suggest that she contact Herschel Chadick in Terrell, Texas (just outside Dallas) & get his thoughts. He can be reached at (972) 563-7577. That number is not in the book but is in the midst of a number of 10 gauge toplever Grade 3 hammer guns with Damascus barrels and was made in 1886.

Best Regards, George

Please post pictures, it might not need restoring just some repairs. Restoring in most cases just kills the nostalgia of the gun. I have a Parker under lifter 16316 with twist barrels and people are impressed more with original condition, not the new look of older guns.

And as follow up - if you can post pics - it would really assist, for if your friend's Parker only needs certain items done - maybe we can come up with some other suggestions for you & her? Just a thought?

Again - my best to you!

John

Pics in Process

I will work with the lady that has the shotgun and try to post them ASAP.
It would be very helpful if we had the members advice on how to proceed.

Bob, once you post some high resolution pictures you will get several learned opinions as to how to proceed based on the condition of the gun, but first things first, no valuable advice can be given without first knowing what the gun's issues might be - and pictures will fill in the blanks.

If the lady is as particular as you say, and wants the gun to made as close to "brand new" as is humanly possible, then, Doug Turnbull of Bloomfield, New York is the man to do the restore Grandpa's Parker ... The lady should also be aware that no matter who does the work, total restorations don't come cheap ... Turnbull is the cream of the crop, and he's listed in the "links" section of this website.
