Trojan Maintenance
 

I've been using my inherited 16ga Trojan since spring. Have some nice roll crimped loads that pattern well and have been out breaking clays a few times.

I do the usual cleaning and wipe down after each time out, but realizing that this thing didn't have any maintenance done for many, many years.

Are there things that I should be doing outside of that to reduce wear and tear and keep it operating smoothly?

You should be sure that you keep the barrel lugs and corresponding parts of the 'receiver' free of foreign matter, eg., dust, seeds, grit, powder residue, etc. and keep the articulating surfaces of the hinge area as well as other contact surfaces lubricated to avoid unnecessary wear.

Do as Dean says but also place some good gun grease on both sides of the forend lug. She should be good for another 100yrs.

Yes, there are many parts in a Parker gun with some pretty tight tolerances. Keep it clean and you should not have issues. Granted, some pretty dirty guns still function, but not as nice as they should.
Just grease wear areas like the roll joint, forend iron, and bolt bite. Do not over oil anywhere else.

Thanks guys. I was kind of guessing that I should be lubricating the metal-on-metal moving portions but wanted to be sure before I did.

My name is Keith Hackleman, I am Kirk Merrington's apprentice.
To reiterate what the previous members wrote and you as well, yes, you should keep the lugs, bites and flats cleaned and greased. Also, keep your barrels clean and lightly oiled.
We recommend having your guns stripped and cleaned every 2-5 years, depending on your region. For example, down here in Texas we have lots of sand and dust so we like to do a complete strip and clean every 2 years.
A strip and clean consists of disassembling the entire gun. Once disassembled, individually clean and inspect each part, re greasing and completing a function and safety check. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or Kirk.

keith what does a strip and clean job usally cost...if i may ask...charlie

Thanks Keith. Great advice. My guess is that it's never been disassembled in its life so might be due.

Any of you guys have a schematic fo th gun? Not for me to use to upgrade, just so i am making sure to talk about the right stuff.

Any quality gun grease is good, I use Penn's reel grease on mine and it's good
