Which damascus? Bernard?
 

I was just wondering if someone can identify the pattern. Its a neat little belgian Neumann Bros. 12ga featherweight. Only other Damascus gun I have is an Ithaca. Thanks in advance Tom.

It does have a similar appearance to Bernard steel. The separate bands are more evident than Bernard, but within the bands, there is a striking resemblance.

Here is a link to a thread with my NH barrels, marked 'TWIST'. I see some similarities.

I have seen several LC Smith's with that pattern of composite barrels. They do look similar to Bernard but may have been made by a different company.

To my eye, the barrels are quite similar the lower grade Bernard found on a very few No. 1 L.C. Smiths

I am not aware of any of the other major U.S. makers using Bernard II, including Remington with the greatest variety of patterns

Sorry to make the point again that 1. Bernard pattern barrels were quite popular, esp. in German-Austrian guns, 2. made by about every barrel maker in Liege, and 3. there is essentially no chance that the Parker C Grade Bernard II barrels were made by Leopold Bernard without this mark

Leopold died in 1870 but his company was making barrels until at least 1890, and his trademark possibly purchased and continued thereafter as fluid steel barrels into the early 1900s with the mark exist

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their information so far. It does look alot like those LC Smith barrels. this gun has 30" improved cyl and full chokes. gun weighs a whopping 5lbs 12oz. best I can figure so far is it was made between 1893 and 1897 using the proof marks. I will try to get some full photos sometime. tom
