D Grade Guns

I recently picked up a 12gauge D grade hammer gun on a 1 frame. I was wondering percentage wise between hammer and hammerless guns which group had the higher percentage of graded guns. Was there a higher percentage of people wealthy enough to afford a graded guns in the hammer or hammerless era?

In The Parker Story, Volume 1, extrapolated totals for all grades and types are posted in an easy to read format.

Well, the hammerless guns and hammer guns were made for about the same length of time. About 50 years. the last hammer gun was made in 1917. There was a long period of overlap of course, but once the hammerless action was introduced, it became the more popular seller by far.
