Need a little help with a VH

I have been in touch with a gentleman who has a VH that he would like to sell. I would like to have it but I'm afraid to make any kind of offer as he has been told it is worth upwards of $15,000.

Here's what I know about the gun:

It looks very nice
It is a VH SN 199445
It has a Beavertail Forend
It is 12 GA
The bores are shiny
The original stock is cracked and was replaced with a custom stock which looks pretty good. He still has the original stock.
All numbers match
I do not know if the gun has ever been refinished or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Casey, if that was a unfired in the box VH, maybe. Now it's just a few thausand buck.

The replacement stock would have to be very nice for this to be a $1000 gun. Send us pictures and we may bump that estimate up a bit.

Thanks again for all the info.

That's a $750.00 shooter, and I'm being generous based on the pictures or lack thereof. If he thinks its worth 15k I'd pass. There are better original guns out there for not a whole lot of money.

Casey, thank you for the pictures. To get a better handle on this VH could you take a few more discreet photos of the following areas on the gun. THis will help the folks that had replied to your post to make a more informed evaluation: 1. photo of buttstock (both sides, 2. photos of frame both sides, 3. fore end bottom showing checkering and latch and tip, 4. photo of the water table, 5. photo of underside of barrels breech end. THis would help.

Its kind of hard to tell from the Photo but the checkering on the fore arm looks wrong for a parker. Probable was replaced with the but stock. I would'nt even make an offer. This fello has some big Ideas and if you offer what the gun is worth you will probable insult him.I would probable just walk away Quitley.

Y'alls opinions aren't too far off from what I thought. I Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that would have made it extra valuable AND as Mr Wayne pointed out, I did not want to insult the gentleman.
Also, this individual has no idea what the gun is worth. He was told by some hunting buddies and couple of customers that the gun was worth a "lot" of money. I explained to him that the VH is pretty much at the bottom of the Parker food chain and being a 12 gauge doesn't help either.

Thanks again for the input.

That custom stock doesn't even have checkering on it. If the dollar keeps getting devalued at the rate it is, it may be worth $15k in many years. And a loaf of bread will cost $500.

I agree, a 700 to 1000 shooter. The buttstock could be made correct with some proper checkering. I do not see photos of the forend posted. Hard to tell anymore from what I see.

Move the decimal point one digit to the left, then divide by two.
