Us Open Sporting Clays at Backwoods

Well, Parker Bros was thinly represented at the U S Open but did pretty Good!!
Our own Dr "Humble John" Truit shot both the double gun and prelim events on Tue. As of tonight he is first in his class in BOTH events shooting "Digger".
I went along as a shell carrier, shot the double gun with my D grade 16 hammer, and am fourth in my class. John got to shoot with Jon Kruger in the prelim and Jon's comment was he has never seen anyone shoot a hammergun better that our Dr. J.. Next year we need to put together a PGCA team!! This is a great event, very friendly and fun. I am not a good shot but felt very comfortable shooting with the big dogs!

I shot with Jon 20 years ago when he shot an 1100 with his pinky finger. He was also a good teacher. His eyes were amazing.

I have had the honor of shooting with both of these fine people and it does not surpise me about John or Jon. They are both great and nice people to be with. Keep shooting well, Frank:bowdown:

Awesome. John is shooting a hammergun among the adjustable rib, choke-changing over/under crowd. I hope after all this is over they don't all want one.

David Dwyer 05-16-2013 08:21 AM

Yes, a 34" Parker Bros hammergun and it got a lot of attention. Lots of choke changing going on with the high dollar over/unders while John was making it work with a gun choked 40 in each barrel. I do not think Jon buys his guns these day, but if anyone wants to gift him one I believe he would be interested.
Backwoods spent over $600,000 on club improvements for this event and it was fantastic. This years Fall SXS in Sept will be at the top course in the country !!

Thank guys for all of the kind words.

Shooting with Jon Kruger was a honor and great experience. He is a true gentleman and professional. It was a wonderful learning experience.

Yes the "Digger" attracted alot of attention.

Mr Dwyer is correct. Rick Hemingway has transformed Backwoods from a very excellent place into a world class facility. Words cannot do justice.

I am truely excited about the Fall shoot at Ricks in September. I have no doubt that it will be incredible.

Gentlemen
For those of you that asked, The Fall SXS is Sept 13-15th. It does not conflict with anything. There will be a free low country gathering for PGCA members at Backwoods-a low country boil- plus some cold ones on Friday evening. A lot more gun dealers this year and some of the best shooting anywhere. I hear a rummer that there may be some Nashville git pickers there also. If RST still has some shells they will be there also.

Thanks David.

As soon as the RST folks get back to PA they better get busy and gear up for the Vintagers at Addieville in RI two weeks later on the 26 - 29 of September and the Parker vs. AH Fox SC shoot. It's good to know there won't be a conflict of dates. Hoping to see the full Southeast contingent at Addieville and the PGCA Annual Meeting and Banquet.

Best, Dean
