A1 surprise today

I'm at work today and heavily involved in doing some extensive rigging for one of our customers. Another customer walks up to where I'm working and engages me in conversation about he's been away from salt water fishing for some time but is getting back into it. So we talk. After about 10 minutes of conversation I asked him if he hunted as well. he says he grew up hunting but got away from that too all these years. 'Do you still have your guns" I ask. "Yes", he says ," I shot guns that few shoot today, I grew up with those side by sides". I ask what kind of side by sides and he says, "you know, Parkers and LC Smiths" "Do you still have them" I inquire again (now I'm really excited) and he says "yes". "What grades might they be?". He says, they're A1"s I believe, I keep them oiled and stored away...funny, my kids have no interest in guns or hunting.. I don't what I'm going to do with them..." Now, he's moving away from me and heading towards the door and says I'll be back". (At this point my jaw is dropping and all I managed to say to him as he exited the store was come back and see me if you ever want to sell them. He says he will and we shake hands and he leaves.

Unfortunately, we had a shop full of customers, otherwise I would have asked him for a ride to his house (in Marian, Ma.) Dam, and I didn't even get his name. Call me flabbergasted. You never know who is going to cross your path...

Allen the rest of us are on our way right now to Marian, MA to start knocking on every door. I hope it works out for you.

We were so jammed up w/customers I didn't have a chance to breathe much less follow up with this customer. I can think of a few other questions I would have liked to ask him and God only knows why I didn't even just ask him for his name, given him my card etc. and casually ask if he'd let me come over and see his firearms (He has a Parker hammer double too). It seemed to happen all so fast. I just hope he comes back in sometime or calls the shop. I feel like an opportunity to see some fine guns slipped away..argh!!

I have met this same owner of A1 Specials at several gun shows. He sure gets around.

Bill, not sure if you are pulling my leg, or are you saying you have met his type before. ????

He's the guy who had the floor lamp made from an A1 Special.

I'll have to ask him about his A1 floor lamp when next he's in the shop.

He's the same guy who advertises a Parker in 'excellent condition' then adds 'for its age'.

Next time you see him, offer him $100 if he will run home and get it.
