Double Double

Shooting clays yesterday and had a first ( for this gun) !2 ga VHE 32" Parker single selective trigger doubled but only with AA light loads ( Featherlite) . Shot 4 boxes of standard loads with no issue. Would have thought just the opposite results. Ideas?

Cockpit Error?

I shot standard loads then the light loads then back to standard twice and had two doubles with the light loads, if it is me do not know what i am doing different. Easy fix is quit shooting the light loads but was just curious. Gun has shot cases upon cases in my hands with no prior doubling history.

Try buying another box out of a different lot of shells. Maby your light loads arnt as light as you think. Might be a factory mistake in loading.

They are the Winchester AA Lite loads, low recoil and loise. They feel and sound like a 20 ga.. Bought them to shoot in another Dasmacus Parker ( not single trigger) light loads for sure.

Thanks,

Scott,

In firing any single trigger here is what occurs:

1. Trigger pulled, gun recoils backward
2. Gun bounces off shoulder in forward direction initiating a second unintentional trigger pull
3. Shooter pulls trigger for second barrel

A single trigger may be designed to compensate for the 2nd unintentional trigger pull. For some reason, you shooting your Parker with the light ammo may have changed the dynamic of the unintentional trigger pull so that it is NOT compensated for. Another shooter may or may not have had the same problem.

Other opinions?

Scott, are the standard shells you shot also AA's? I've found their primers to be softer and more friendly to a gun or two that I own which are prone to light strikes.

Did you try changing the selector for the barrel that fires first? I'm admittedly weak on knowledge of the Parker action, but notice that they appear to have rebounding hammers. Is the rebound spring assisted? If so, and the rebound spring on one hammer (second barrel) is weak, then it may be lunging forward partially upon recoil from the first shot. Couple that with what I perceive as the soft primer in a AA shell, and bingo you've just doubled. If you change the barrel selector and the problem goes away, Bob's yer uncle! (and you need a new spring)

If the "normal" shells you usually shoot are also AA's, then I'll just be quiet and shuffle back on over to LC Smith Land!

John
