Looking for Ivory Bead
Where may I find a ivory bead for my DHE, I see Connecticut Shotgun has one but it's a press fit. Is there another source that has threaded ones? Has anyone used the press fit and how and what do you use to install.

Bob,
Brownells has two bead sizes of real ivory sights. I use a Dremel tool to grind the shank down slowly until it is just a fraction too big for the rib hole, but will thread in with a pin vise holding it, which treads the shank of the sight to the threads in the Parker rib. I then remove it and place a fraction of a drop of Super Glue on the newly threaded shank (which may or may not be necessary) and screw it back in with the pin vise. They are really nice pure ivory sights about $13 apiece if I remember correctly, or may have gone up a little. |
Thanks guys.
I see they are very proud of them $35.00... both are backordered. Which thread would you recommend the 6-48 or the 3-56? |
I had an ivory bead installed on my 28 ga. VHE that was of fossil mastadon ivory. It is a lovely bead with just a bit of tea-hued staining. I don't remember what it cost but I like it.

Bob,
I use #661-104-004AH (4mm) sight bead. $13. N.E.C.G. Mamoth Tusk ivory (so according to the catalog no international trade restrictions are violated). http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-par...?sku=661104004 Pg. 282 of the 2012-2013 catalog. I was wrong about 2 sizes. "Undersize 6-48 thread, secure with epoxy adhesive." I would say that the unaltered hole is probably 3-56. If it has been retapped to 6-48 you are in business. If not you will need to remove material as I described above to make it fit the factory hole. Jerry |
Thanks all...have two on the way.

ivory bead
Check with Dale Edmonds. He can fabricate one from mammoth tusk and install it.
Did one for me on a GH. Nice touch and reasonably priced! |
I put one of the CSMC large size ivory beads on my .410. It draws a lot of comments. It looks like it belongs on an eight gauge. It is hard to miss with that gun. I didn't install it, but suspect it is pressed and glued in place.

Thread it back in place with ever so little super glue so you don't lose it. |
