What kind of fly were you using?

I bet it was. Cat's are strong swimmers. I used to use my grandfather's long bamboo fly rod to fish at night for bullheads and anything else that would bite - that old rod got a workout!

I would have guessed with a bottom feeder you would have hooked up with a trailing nymph. :rotf::rotf::rotf:

Channel cats are really not bottom feeders. They prefer clean waters. I have caught channel cats on fly rod while fishing for bluegills. Great fight and tasty fillets.
