Shotshells again.

In the last LS&B auction there were several lots I was interested in getting. These usually don't pan out but occasionally you strike gold on rifle ammo and brass.

This time I put an early bid in on a lot of 5 boxes of Westley Richards 2-1/2" Game Loads.

The other bid was for 8 boxes of Game Bore Paper Hull Black Powder loads, (one of which was not marked as Black Powder, soreally 7 probably).

Both were 12 gauge.

With shipping and taxes, the Westley Richards went for roughly $60/box, and the Game Bore Black for $45/box, not counting the odd box.

Wow!

Don't feel too bad - the shell scalpers at our local gun show are buying the Walmart 100-packs (4 boxes of 25 ea.) of Federal 12 and/or 20 gauge, priced at $29 plus tax at Walmart, then putting them out on their tables for anywhere between $42 and $60 per pack.

Kevin is anyone actually buying them?

You think those went high. How about the 2 1/2 Westly Richard 20 gauge shells. 208 shells for a cool $256, not counting shipping. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/946063320

I will teach you to reload. However, my problem is getting time to shoot the shells I have reloaded.

Kevin, at a recent local gun show, I pointed that out to my friend, that we could buy those 100 packs at any Walmart for far less than the $50 price. The guy at the table heard me and took offense, told me to mind my own business. I told him to stop listening to other peoples private conversations. Over the summer, I have picked up about 10 100 packs of 20 ga and 8 packs of 12 ga. Walmart has recently raised the price to $34.95

I was at a Walmart in New York for the NE SXS and went into a Walmart loaded with 28 gauge ammo and 20 gauge ammo. I bought essentially a flat of each at the time. That's a lotta factory ammo. FWIW, I recently bought a late model Fox sterlingworth 20 gauge with factory 2 3/4" chambers just so I wouldn't have to be concerned about whether RST would have shells. PS. Not everyone has a place to reload sadly.

Tom, I would guess that the 28s were not priced like the 12s and 20s. $14.00 a box 28 gauge shells are a "No thanks" in my part of the world.

One of the sporting clays facilities we frequent will allow you to purchase the amount of shells you intend to shoot that day. This spring and early summer I was buying Fiocchi 28 gauge at 8.50 per box. A screamer of a deal IMO in todays world, probably picked up a couple of flats over the course of time in this manner. Weekend before last the Owner advised that he was unable to find any Fiocchi so he had to buy Federals which were a bit higher. He quoted the price of $15 and some changer per box !

Bill,

Winchester AA Supersport. $10.66 per box. 3/4 oz 7.5. There is a reason I bought a flat.

I think it was a one off. Have not seen them again anywhere.
