Barrels NOT Touching at Muzzles
A friend and I were just talking about Parker Reproduction barrels and whether they touched at the muzzles or not. I assured him that the only Repro barrels that did not touch were the .410 barrels and that in my experience the other gauges did. Then I went to my gun room to check the only Repro I have remaining, Kathy's 28 gauge Skeet gun.... and Surprise, Surprise - they did NOT touch! there is a gap of something like 3/32" between the barrels.
I wonder if Members can check their Repro's and post their findings here in regards to gauge and width of gap. If we can reach some kind of consensus that certain gauges had a specific gap in width and that maybe the 12's did not, maybe we can learn something. My friend has a very late (Ilion) Remington-Parker 28 gauge with uncut barrels but with a gap between the barrels. Do other Members have very late Remington-Parkers with a gap between the barrels at the muzzle? Knowing that Tom Skuese sent several of his own Remington-Parkers to Kenosha to be copied or duplicated, detail for detail, I wonder if this "gap" may have inadvertently been carried to the Parker Reproductions? Discussion welcome - . |
I have 4 Repros here. 2 in 12g. one in 20g and one in 28g. Both 12g DO touch. The 20g. has a small space and the 28g. is spaced out farther than the 20.

Dean , my 20 has a space of about 1/16 between the barrels. I can see where the barrels end and the wedge begins. Some of my other guns it is not well defined.

I have a 28 gauge 28" repro and it has ~ 3/32" between the barrels. Dang battery is dead in my calipers.

I have four repros, 1 12 and 3 20s. The 28" 12 has touching barrels but the 26" barrels do not by about 1/32. The 2 26" 20s do not touch and are different, ranging from 1/16 to 1/8. The 28" 20 touches.

I have a 28 gauge repro and it is having some major surgery at a well loved upstate NY facility...so I can't tell you what the measurement is...and my caliper batteries are also dead...dang it...great survey though! Thank you for starting this thread.

Dudley, could it be that shotgun barrels are usually slightly swamped to get point of impact correct, but Repros and Remington Parkers have straight barrels that do not have a swamp?

Bill, that’s the angle my investigation is aimed at. But we’ll need folks to examine the muzzles of their original Ilion Remington-Parkers too.

3-28ga. barrels spaced 1/8"
2-20ga. barrels spaced 1/8" 1-16ga. barrels touching 2-12ga. barrels touching |
My 28 gauge 28" barrels appear to be 1/16" between barrels and the 26" barrels a little less.
