Titantic Steel vs Damascus

I have a 12 Ga GH. The barrels are marked Titantic Steel on the rib but they have an obvious beautiful damascus pattern. Other threads I've read make a distinction between Titantic Steel and damascus. What's going on here?

Titanic barrels are fluid steel. Pictures may be helpful for more accurate speculation.

More than likely when Damascus fell out of favor they were marked “Titanic Steel” and blued over.

It's hard to find a good answer to a situation like this.

I once had a 1903 GH that had Damascus barrels blued ands the name "Damascus" on the rib had been expertly filled in and matted over. It was somebody's attempt to obscure the fact that the barrels were Damascus in order to dupe someone into buying a gun with "fluid steel" barrels.

I had the barrels properly refinished and the picture is below. I was never too happy about the Damascus pattern that resulted.

If I knew how to add an image I would. I have it as a file. PGCA says to send it I need to have an HTML or something like that. Computers aren't my forte.

From the Home page you can click on one of the topics in the left column. We have a very good tutorial there all about posting pictures on this site.

Here is the page on resizing.

And this one shows how to load the picture to our forum.

Would you repeat that please?

What did I miss Greg?

Maybe I wasn't clear about something?

Did this gun come from the Olathe shop? For a long time he had one just like that for sale. It is likely just an error in marking from the factory

OR, it could have been blued over and remarked Titanic in the past. And since refinished in black/white with the steel making left as titanic. Stuff like that was being done 40-50 years ago. Careful examination of the physical evidence may help answer what could have happened.

Your last sentence where you said "I was never too happy about the Damascus pattern that resulted."

I thought you would have said that you were very happy about the Damascus pattern that resulted. I was thinking that is what you meant to say. But, maybe not?

I know I prefer the look of Damascus over blued.
