Remington 1885 grade and info?

5 Attachment(s)
A number of years back I got this from a neighbor’s closet. I believe its a grade 6? Its also unusual in the lack of a tab at rear top of barrel thet locks into the receiver. I ve been watching the online auctions but havent seen another like it. Any comments or info from an expert would be appreciated. Thanks

Excellent gun. You are a lucky man.

That is quite the unique shotgun. Perhaps it was ordered by a Pigeon shooter that didn't like the rib extension in the way for loading. Quite a few Parker Bros. were ordered without the rib extension.

The late Charles Semmer in his book Remington Double Shotguns certainly didn't show such a gun or any Model 1885 above Grade 5.

Perhaps you would get some Remington hammer gun expertise on the Remington Society of America web site --

Are the barrels marked with the type of barrel steel on this gun? It is quite a beautiful example. Thank you for sharing pictures.
