End of Day

"Good things seem to come at end of day --
rare moments would be as rare, fair thoughts as fair
at any hour, but because the day is dying
each is the more precious as the lordly ridges swallow Time."
(From End of Day, from George Bird Evans' An Affair With Grouse

With GBE's words in mind, I thought I'd share some photos from a few of our hunts this season, all taken at end of day.

And a few more...all courtesy of my wife, Elaine, who tags along to see that the dogs are well cared for, and that I don't lie about my shooting.

My favorite is the first one of you and your dog walking towards the old barn. What a great tableau of the milieux afield!

Snapped this as I walked back to my cabin 2 weeks ago on what is probably my last bow hunt of the year... Love this time of evening.

Pat, I wonder if that's the same Missouri sky Elaine and I were under in a couple of those photos? I'll bet is was and we were just a bit north and west of you near Milan.

No bowhunting today!!

Working today yet, would love to be out there when wind lays down.

This was first weekend in December. Dec 4th if I remember right. It was a beautiful evening, not interupted by the chaos deer cause. :D

Pat,

Well, my bubble is now partially burst! We were indeed hunting that day, a Sunday morning hunt before football games (and an agreement with Elaine to not hunt all day on "Football Sunday." I do recall the day, a beauty, but for us a sad one as another of our covers underwent "change," this time in the form of logging. Ultimately it may make for better quail habitat, and be good for the deer, but for now, the skidders have robbed us of another place to hunt.

The sky was beautiful that day...as it is every day.

You MO boys sure have some pretty scenery! I appreciate you sharing it with us. And that last photo, Garry, looks you were still in your right mind and carrying a 20. Before you went and started shooting birds with that cannon gun. Merry Christmas all!

I have debated logging my place, but have not been able to pull myself to do it.

Got some really nice old White & Red Oaks..... Just not ready to say good bye to them.
