I love this time of year, but often feel there's not nearly enough hours in the day. After returning from our Minnesota grouse hunt, we were greeted with too warm temperatures that kept us from enjoying our quail opener. But we got out for woodcock at the farm (alas, the flights had already passed through), a shortened-by-heat quail hunt, and bow hunt in 77 degree weather.
Then the weather Gods turned even meaner and unloosed cold and snow. A firearms deer opener was shared with a duck hunt. No bagged big buck or piles of ducks photos, but a full day with friends afield is a trophy in my book.
Then, an escape from Missouri's deer season across the border into Iowa for a cold, windy day hunt during which we found three large coveys of very wild Iowa Bobs, taking only one bird from each covey. Parkers were at the heart of our bird hunts, of course (along with a svelte H&H .410).
