Variety is the Spice of Life
Judged an Open Gun Dog stake in a field trial this past weekend. One of the most diverse stakes in terms of breeds I've had the pleasure to judge. Dogs entered included German Shorthair, German Wirehaired, Weimaraner, Vizsla, Brittany, English Setter, and Irish Setter. GSP's took 1st and 2nd. Vizlsla placed 3rd and the English Setter came in 4th.

Very interesting John. I am assuming this was an event in the Southern US? Short-haired dogs shine in the South it seems, although the last bird dog I owned was a Setter.

Reggie, this trial was held in south Georgia. First of the season, so the dogs still needed a little tuning up and the weather was on the warmish side. I'm a Shorthair guy but have an appreciation for all the pointing breeds. Fortunately it wasn't a huge stake and I only had to spend about four hours in the saddle.

As a side note, my young Shorthair won the Amt. Puppy stake.
