Safety issues

I recently bought a DHE 28ga and had a chance this past weekend to try it out.
A very minor issue popped up and I wanted to see if others have seen the same problem.

Every now and then the safety would fail to come all the way off, the button would move forward to a stop but the triggers were still blocked. I would try cycling the safety button but that would not help. The only solution I found was to open the gun and close it then the safety would work. I am thinking that the issue rests with the auto safety.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I found on one of mine that if the lower tang screw was just a bit too tight if would cause my safety to bind.

Have the innards cleaned and lubed. Probably the original lube has gelled. Had similar safety, and trigger fowling due to old gelled lube. Happened to all 3 of my Repros.

Is it a single or a double trigger gun?

Here is something else you can try when it sticks up. Try pushing forward on the back of the triggers/trigger and see if that makes it move foreard while pushing at the same time. This will tell you if the issue is related to the area between the trigger and the safety arm. Or elsewhere.

As previously suggested, the reset rod can be a culprit too. The wood can swell slightly and cause it to stick. Or things can be dirty. As with many things, your issue can be caused by a couple different things.

The gun has two triggers. I will check the movement of the trigger to see if that is the issue.

auto safety problem

Had same problem, gave me an excuse to take out the auto safety rod and
now no problem, there was a little piece of wood causing the problem. This DHE 28/410 Repro is used mostly to shoot skeet.
The .410 barrels are CSMC and the ejector stop had to be modified as the
stop plates were made out of brittle material and failed.

My 2-bbl, double trigger 28ga has a safety issue. If you use the gun in the rain or just wet conditions, the safety tightens up and cannot be put into the off position with your thumb. You have to push it against a tree to get it off and I've just never been able to get the birds to sit and wait while I do that. Go figure, eh? I think the stock must swell and pinch the little block that holds the disconnect "arm". Let it dry out and it's fine.

I think you're right Richard.

When I first had my SSS (double triggers), the safety would bind when hunting in the rain. I contacted Mr Skeuse and sent the gun to him. He said the wood swelled when wet and they would remove some wood to fix the problem. It did fix the problem.

I later years it would get a little stiff in could weather. I spoke to Del Grego about this, he said something to the effect that the rod that connects the auto safety often didn’t have a large enough channel in the wood and binds.
