10ga Test Results Red Dot & Cheddite CX 2000 primer

The load I had tested a few years back with 19gr Red Dot, Cheddite hull, Winchester 209, 1 1/8oz lead, results were 6866psi, 1140fps.
I had the a load of 17.1gr Red Dot, Cheddite hull, Cheddite cx2000 primer, 1 1/8oz of lead, results were 7700psi, 1137fps. Loaded test sheet below. I am finding with the cheddite cx2000 primer I need to reduce powder to obtain similar pressure and velocity to my old WW209 and Rem209 primer loads. |
Good test data Craig. Shows that using the Cheddite primers can actually save $$ by using less powder and obtaining the same results. Seems that on average a reduction of 2 grains of powder will give pretty much the same results as more powder and a domestic primer that used to be readily available.

Craig, your results are obviously correct, but neither of the loads with either primer will blow up a good ten gauge gun.

An interesting sideline. At a shoot Wed. evening we examined some 12 ga. factory AA loads and compared to handloads known to be Win 209 late production primers. They do not look at all the same. I wonder if Winchester has taken to outsourcing their primers and hence the absence of Win 209 primers from the marketplace.

Thanks in advance. |
Pete: four 1/8" nitro cards in the bottom of the SP10 shot cup. I know the sheet says three 1/8" nitro cards but it was transposed incorrectly.
