Rib Art

I get a kick out how beautiful some Damascus ribs are. None of this recent batch of barrels to refinish were Parkers unfortunately, but I wanted to show the quality original workmanship revealed by the refinish.

Beautiful Breck.
More examples here http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/21182597 Parker D4 with a Washington rib http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../405985028.jpg |
Very nice. I think the chain pattern is one of the nicest but all of the above are beautiful.
|
Well done Breck!
|
Wow...just...wow!
|
Amazing what they could create in Damascus!

Well Done!!

Breck refinished this set of 12 gauge, 1-frame Bernard barrels for me a few months ago. I’m very pleased with the result and the rib is outstanding!
The rib is almost irridescent as it reflects light differently as I change the angle I’m holding it at. . |
Wow it looks like you have the process down pat. Those are gorgeous.
|
clearly a masters work....charlie
|
Stunning. I look at this and truly see art. My wife on the other hand...

Top rib on this 10g Parker-made laminated barrel is no slouch, it the bottom rib takes the prize.

Wow those are really some attractive barrels there Breck, makes me want to go out and pick up a damascus barreled gun.... :-)

How would you catgorize this rib as to source and pattern? |
Seems to be a laminate probably sourced from Belgium. Much too late a gun to be Parker USA made. Hard to say. On Damascus ribs that I’ve had to strip and relay, there was a “D” stamp on the underside. Maybe this one has an “L” stamp.
|
That's a beautiful Laminated rib. Enlarge the picture by double or triple clicking on the picture. You will see the 'weld line' waving through the length of it between the ribbands., Very nice!
. |
that's some fine rib patterns...I would never get to shoot any thing for looking at those ribs.........charlie

New member but have been lurking awhile; here's another example from top and bottom ribs of a 1910 DHE 12 gauge.

Syracuse Lefever

That second picture makes me think of my lava lamp from the 1960’s.
. |
What grade lefever is that on? And what era or manufacture, serial range?
|
Those are spectacular 3 Iron Bernard I tubes, and I've only seen a single example on a Lefever; a C grade.
|
Drew, Sara Lefever has a set she had made into a lamp. Unfortunately they had been cut to something like 22 inches but they were a special set of barrels having been made expressly for, and the rib engraved as such, to a surname familiar to most Lefever collectors, one F.A. Elliott.
Breck Gorman refinished them. See the thread titled Lefever Lamp. . |

I own a Lefever C 10ga with 30" Bernard Barrels. Circa 1887. It also has a Laminate bottom rib! Serial number 9874.
|
I have my barrels scheduled to go to Breck on June 1. They are B grade barrels from my recently acquired D grade Lefever.
Per Dr Drew the a 4 Iron Turkish. Can't wait to see the results |
can t wait to see those barrels phil....and that's a nice lefever 10 ga...charlie
|
I like to think Burt Becker did the barrel work on my C grade circa 1887 as Burt didn't leave Lefever until 1889.

Here is an AHE with a Bernard top rib. Hard to see through the matting, but it’s there.

Beautiful work as always Breck. A bit atypical for an AHE to have D4
