Hammer gun weight
Are hammer guns generally heavier than hammer less guns? I picked up a grade II top lever that comes in at 8 lbs, letter confirms the weight. What I find interesting is it’s on a 1 frame, 30 inch barrels with unstruck barrel weight at 3.1. Seems like a lot of weight.

Yes, 8lbs for a 1 frame gun is very heavy.
Not that it could not happen. I once saw a 2 frame 12g gun with a cannon breech that weighed more than most 3 frame guns. Over 10 lbs. |
That’s wild, I’ll have to check the stock to see if it’s weighted.

how does it balance?
|
Typical Parker balance, right at the hinge. The weight seems to be centered. I’ll be coming around in Feb. I’ll let you know and I’ll bring it with me.

I have a 1-frame 12/30 T/A hammergun that currently weighs 7.54 lbs. that has had no alterations whatever other than some very professional refinishing. I can’t imagine it has lost nearly 1/2 lb. of moisture in the wood…

This is mine, interesting dates and serial numbers....... hmmm. Yours must have been sitting awhile. C grades are very nice? I'll get an actual physical weight, I got a feeling it's 8lbs or over.
