I know this isn't any kind of Fox. Could this be from a Parker Bros. SBT?

That would be my guess. A hard to find item worth the cost of repair of the chip.

It's a Parker. Not a fox.

Low grade Parker with checkered cheek panels.

SC grade. 177,581 is listed in the Serialization Book as a single trap with straight grip and 32" barrel. The checkering pattern as well as the straight grain wood indicates a C grade. A good deal for someone who needs one. Dave's guess was a good one.

I saw the Fox written on the butt when it was listed. The tip-off is likely the title of the listing that starts out "Parker Bros.". It does look in good shape, but with almost 1000 eBay reviews, the guy likely knows all the tricks. He reveals the damage in the pictures without mentioning it in the writeup. The couple of pictures that reveal it were taken to minimize the impression of the size. I suspect the damage is worse than you would guess and the missing "chip" is much larger than appears. Given the condition of the wood and it's relatively plain grade, I doubt it would have been removed and replaced if it was easily fixed. I would ask for a good picture of the defect straight on before I bid.

Comparing the picture with real Parker trap guns, the stock seems to be about 1/2" short. Still the first single barrel Parker stock I've seen in a while.
