10 gauge bbls

I had a set of bbls from a wrecked 10 ga, 2 frame lifter that were just sitting around for the last couple years. When I got them they had been cut to 27", had no top rib or extractor. They were rusty and pitted somewhat on the outside but the inside looked pretty good. I'm making a project out of them and plan to fit them to the 12 gauge I posted about getting the testing and tig work done on. I have a set of 12 gauge lifter bbls that were run over by a truck and ruined that's providing the rib. Here's a few pics: 1) The 10 gauge bbls polished. 2) The 12 gauge donor bbls. 3) The rib bent from the truck wreck. 4) The bent rib in the 10 gauge bbl channel. 5) Heat being applied to the straightening jig. 6) Straightened rib back in the channel. 7) What you see when a rib is removed. Thanks to Jim Dispagno for the jig idea and Thomas L. Benson Sr for the rib and bbls.

The resourcefulness and ingenuity that abounds here is awe inspiring.

Appalling what's under those ribs, isn't it?

That's some sick puppy who has a work area that looks like that. We should take up a collection to buy Mike some junk.

here's a couple more pics: 1) these bbls were filed to a tapered flat at the muzzles ans extending back about 4". Wall thickness at the filing .045 compaed to .065 for rest of muzzle. 2) Another view of the flat filing. Notice the hole. No idea what it's from but it appears machine made.

Mike: Did you have any luck finding a extractor yet. I was wondering if your gunsmith with the torch hires out.Thomas:):

Mike Franzen 04-08-2013 10:55 PM

The "Torch" is not for hire. She's too dangerous! Not only can she burn you real bad she's also a 4th degree Black Belt. And no Thomas I haven't found an extractor ... :rotf:

Thomas L. Benson Sr. 04-08-2013 11:49 PM

Mike: Does the extractor from a 12 Ga. Work in a ten Ga. As long as they are both the same frame size. Thomas
