BP/ paper hulls/ fiber wads / 16 gauge

Should the fiber, wads, like those from Circle fly, be lubricated when used in paper hulls in 16 gauge. And if so, what kind of lubricant should be used.
Thank you

For my 12 gauge, I had purchased pre-lubricated cork wads on an auction years ago. I cannot find lubricated modern manufactured wads

Thank you

I placed an order. Would there be a pressure difference between lubed vs. non lubed?

Mark Garrett 05-09-2023 07:45 PM

The lube wads will be heavier than non lubed wads. I'm sure it will change, hard to say how much.

I have never lubed wads when reloading shotgun shells. A lubed wad when shooting muzzle loaders will soften the residue left from the shot before so it's easier to push the next load components down the barrel. With a breech loader, or cartridge gun, that all becomes unnecessary. JMHO but I don't believe the extra weight of a lubed wad over a non lubed wad will make enough difference in pressure to be a problem.
