Another one bites the dust .............(pic heavy)

Today Susie and I are a year older. Susie was completed on Oct. 13, 1925. She and I found each other at the Fall Southern S X S Shoot some 12-14 years ago. With her long LOP, 16 gauge chambering, Hunter One trigger, 32" barrels and ejectors she caught my eye as being a standout among Field grade Elsies. Seldom will you see a Field grade with those options. I walked away from her, but returned a couple times with interest. The last time I did so I looked at the hang tag and said out loud "Oh no!". The owner asked what was the problem and I replied "It was completed on my birthday". He grinned the way someone does when they recognize they've got you and said "Do you know an omen when you see one?".

She was dubbed Susie that evening. I fell asleep with her beside me in bed. We bonded. :nono:

Happy 97th birthday, Susie. Long may you run.

Happy Bday and Ain't those long range dove bombers fun to shoot doves out of the skies!! Long live you and that Susie!

Stan Hillis 10-17-2022 07:42 AM

They are indeed, David!

Susie hasn't been used on doves yet this year (2022-2023 seasons) but will when it comes back in. Our first season is out right now, and I typically shoot nothing but .410, 28 and 20 gauges for doves in the early season. Middle season I'll start with the 16s and continue with them through the late season. Occasionally, in the late season when the big northern doves are passing through GA I'll use a 12, particularly on cold, windswept days when they're flying fast and high, never with over 1 oz. of shot, however.

Well, Happy Bday Stan. Sorry I'm a little late to the party but a group of us are in South Dakota chasing ringnecks. My grandson also celebrated his 11th bday on the 13th of Oct. and his Mom's bday is the 20th of this month. Nice birthday present my friend.
