Two guns alike
We all know what gun attributed to say Annie Oakley sell for but let's you have two guns that are the same and one gun is traced back to Capt Dubray what would that do to the value differences. Thanks Thomas

O.K. Let me try this. I have a 12 ga. Pigeon gun with 32 inch barrels and it has never been owned by anyone of importance but you have the same gun described but yours can be traced back to Capt Dubray what would the estimate higher value be of your gun. Thanks Thomas

i bet there will be a whole lot of differance in the price of those guns..i would guess as much as triple in value... charlie

I was thinking it would have to be substantial also. Thanks Charlie. Thomas

I would rather have Grandpa's old Trogan than Czar's A-1.
|
depends - selling or buying??

Gerald: What if you were the Czar's grandson.:rotf: Thomas

Arthur DuBray's name is on many Parker orders. It is very hard to trace a gun to his ownership, although there are a few that have been shown to be his guns. What is the situation here? By the way, we aren't so sure about the Annie Oakley prices, either. The last "Annie Oakley" Parker that sold for an obscene amount wasn't even an Annie Oakley gun. It was Frank Butler's gun and we're not really sure about that.

I can assure you I wouldn't pay a nickel more for a gun that had Colonel Dubray's name attached to it.
As an aside, I'm actually surprised there aren't more orders for two Parkers 100% identical to one another. If you happen to be the father of two boys, you'll know exactly why that would be important. |
Well I guess I would be CzarIII.
|
A former owner be it DuBray, Oakley or anyone else for that matter makes no difference to me. I would not pay extra because the gun was once owned by someone famous.

To some of us, provenance is a big deal. As far as value goes, maybe not so much. My feeling has always been that all my guns without provenance are for sale.

I'd never even heard of this Dubray character before today. Bill Murphy?...I knew of him before joining the PGCA. :corn: |
Dubray was the real deal. Rode with Custer , was in the 7th Cav rear guard when Custer's advanced companies were killed. Became Parker's west coast agent and lived at the Sutter Hotel at Sutter and Geary in SF. Sold many great Parkers along the west coast. I've taken and shown photos of Dubray's room at the Sutter here. Arthur Dubray is a name that Parker collectors know.
I am presently at the St James in Cimarron NM where Clay Allison, Doc Holliday, Wade and Wyatt Earp hung out. 26 men were carried out of here feet first and its still cow country. Cowboys still ride range out here as it is the only way to get back in to some of the cow camps. Country is full of lions and bears. Los Penitentes still carry crosses on their back at isolated villages in the mountains. Dick Dow and I are doing the Bataan Death March Memorial Marathon in honor of his father, a Bataan survivor. I'll post pictures later. |
And so now I know the name of Arthur Dubray. Rode with Custer. Built the Parker name in the West. That's pretty legit in my book.
Please remember to post pictures of the hotel. Any history concerning The Wild West is intriguing. Kudos to you and Mr. Dow for honoring his father. Best of luck to the both of you. Safe travels. |
