Parker Story Arrived in a Semi!

A semi truck backed up to the house last night to deliver Vols 1 & II of 'The Parker Story'. these tomes will take me well into my retirement years to finish reading! And they weigh a ton! :rotf:

Alan, Other than the Bible I do not know of a better or more informative read!

allen newell 02-23-2013 03:02 PM

Other than the Bible, I'll be reading these the rest of my life!

Rick Losey 02-23-2013 04:04 PM

mine came in van - did you get a large print edition??

allen newell 02-23-2013 05:31 PM

Must have. They are 2 very large volumes. I'll be methusula by the time I finish reading them, ye gads!

Dean Romig 02-23-2013 08:28 PM

I read both volumes, cover to cover, part time, within six months of receiving them.... it's one of those "just couldn't put it down" kind of books. If you have the 'hunger' you'll get through it faster than you think.

allen newell 02-23-2013 08:40 PM

I have ordered a large supply of 'No Doze' to facillitate my ever declining reading skills. I'm sure reading them will keep me distracted enough from getting into trouble with my wife.

Dean Romig 02-23-2013 08:45 PM

Not a chance!

allen newell 02-23-2013 08:47 PM

Hah!

Russ Jackson 02-24-2013 10:49 AM

Read mine cover to cover ,and go back almost daily to research ! I have the Binding Broke on Volume I ! Enjoy ! Russ

Congrats Allen,

A quick question if you don't mind. Did you purchase the Trade Edition, and if so is it hardcover? I can't seem to find out about the binding anywhere, and to the best of my knowledge the Limited Editions are long gone.

Thank you,
Tom

allen newell 02-26-2013 04:32 PM

Hi Tom, I purchased Vols I & II and they are hard cover. I think I got them from the double gun journal folks. Not cheap. But Vol I so far is very interesting and I haven't had to take any no-doze pills to get through the pages. Charles Parkers early life as a businessman is very interesting. So far, it's a good read for me and fascinating history. Worth it if you treasure Parkers and want to know more about the history.

Tom, I have the Trade editions. Grendel Books has a set of the Limited edition I believe for $500 used (Vol I&II).

Mills Morrison 02-26-2013 07:24 PM

I have thought about getting a second set, just because the set I have gets heavy use. I wish I had bought the limited edition when it was still available

allen newell 02-26-2013 07:41 PM

Mills, I'm sure you can find a used set of Limited Editions on the web. Grendel Books has a set I think
a

Thanks Allen. Do they have a website?

Mills, I googled 'The Parker Story Book' and the first source that came up was 'Abebook.com'. They have a set for $500 which I believe is the Limited Edition. Used.

Robert Rambler 02-26-2013 08:32 PM

There's a set on Ebay right now.

allen newell 02-26-2013 08:40 PM

They're the trade edition and priced at about retail.

I e-mailed Majordomo about these books after his last auction. I would not buy anything from him. One word description about this man is "RUDE"!!!!!

D.P.Warden 03-02-2013 10:29 PM

Other than the Limited Edition being signed and numbered 1-500, what the heck is the difference? The Trade Edition looks exactly like the Limited Edition. Same number of pages and photos, same size, and bound exactly alike. I'm ordering the trade and keeping the extra 250 in my pocket...

Greg Baehman 03-03-2013 04:38 AM

In addition to the Limited Edition being signed and numbered it also was leather bound and included a leatherette slipcase. Whereas, the Trade Edition is cloth bound and only the pre-publication purchasers of the Trade Edition received a slipcase.

Dean Romig 03-03-2013 06:25 AM

$500 for the Limited Edition is an extremely good price considering the fact that $500 was the the price when there were plenty of them available. It is a collectors item today and if still in mint condition it should command a considerably higher price.... IMHO

allen newell 03-03-2013 07:19 AM

No doubt Dean, but I very pleased with the Trade Edition and apart from its weight, its a good read!

Dean Romig 03-03-2013 07:33 AM

Allen, I agree - The trade edition is a great value and inside the covers it is exactly the same as the Ltd. Ed.

allen newell 03-03-2013 07:41 AM

Now, if I could just find someone willing to hold it up while I read it.......

Paul Plager 03-04-2013 10:14 PM

I bought a copy off amazon.com. This set came in the leather sleeve. I paid about $400.00 mine are not signed or numbered but I dont mind.
