GH No. 1 frame restock

Here is a little GH fishtail No. 1 frame 12g. that I picked up a while back. The original stock was broken through the wrist and the back half was missing. I made up a new buttstock for it. I will end up cleaning up the original forend on it and reusing it.

Brian ,
Is that pattern on the old stock right the middle point looks to be alot bigger than your new . Nice work !

Brian Dudley 01-26-2013 07:02 PM

Obviously there is variation in the Parker checkering patterns. However, I have not seen too many that I would call original that had the center point be that big. I would guess the old stock on this GH had the checkering recut at some point. Can't comment too much on it since the back part was gone, so that front is all I saw of it.

Very nicely done. It's great to save one from the depths of despair.

Mills Morrison 01-26-2013 08:07 PM

Brian,
What if any plans do you have for the metal, now that its wearing such nice new wood?

Brian Dudley 01-30-2013 08:32 PM

I wasn't really planning on doing too much with it. Maybe refinish the barrels. Just gonna shoot it for a bit for now.

Hey Brian I saw your gun pics and it looks like my next project - GH, No 1 Frame, Fishtail top lever.

Dennis V. Nix 02-18-2013 03:21 PM

Lovely piece of wood, Brian. You did a great stocking job as well.

Brian Dudley 02-18-2013 07:11 PM

Boy Mike, yours looks almost identical to the way mine did when I started. I was going to ask you how you got the photo. lol.

Mills Morrison 02-18-2013 07:32 PM

There is a lot of satisfaction in bringing a broken gun back to life

Mike Franzen 02-18-2013 10:12 PM

Yeah, Brian it was this post that inspired me to take this one on. My gun was broken by UPS several years ago. I'm just about ready after I get finished with a lifter. BTW...I want to say thank you for pics on how to take these guns apart. That by itself is worth the price of a PGCA membership.

Brian Dudley 02-19-2013 08:35 AM

I have yet to see a royalty check for the use of that information. Obviously kidding. Anything I can do to help.
