Hey Dean - there was nothing at all wrong with your post and showing that pretty DHE 28. I rather enjoy looking at that Parker.

Not the email I got, don't want to go down that road again.
PS woodwork is original and is A1 Special (was just told).

I don't think I've seen another DH with only three birds on the floor plate. Has anyone else seen that?

The Reproductions only have three birds and I've been wondering if the Remington guns (other aspects of the repro engraving are Remington-like) were the model for the repro engraving. Dean, I've forgoten, is that gun from the Remington era?

No this is 1924/5, Parker letter notes gun finished Feb 1925.

Could it be that the frame size is 00 ?

First time for me too Larry. Just goes to show, "never say never".

A 28 ga. of that era should be a 00-frame. Look on the bottom of the barrel lug and see the 28 for the gauge and either one or two 0's for the frame size. It should also have the milled "lightening cuts" in the surface of the water table of the frame.

Dean just for you, hope I don't get in doo-doo.

Can somebody post some engraving pictures on another 28g please.

Here's a couple pic's of an early 1900's DH 28 on an O frame as I believe all the early guns were.

No I don't but there are a few for sale on the web that you could look at. Check Puglisi's site I believe he has a couple.

Ser. No. 149020 was Jessie Alvord Bishop's 28 ga. 24" DHE ordered for her by her husband Henry A. Bishop

Great stuff, detail changes from one to another, I think I like the bottom one more so than the other, both great.

Don't have to worry about me posting 28g, Julia's is picking it up Tuesday.

Congratulations Dean. We'll certainly be following that auction. I'll be very interested to see how Jim and Wes and the others there represent it in their catalogue.

DH ENGRAVING
 

There two photos of engraving on an early 1 frame DH, 56568 which is early production near the 100th DH produced. Note the dog on the floor plate; some of the last Ilion DH guns also have a single dog on the floorplate.

DH ENGRAVING
 

The attached photos are a late , light (6lb 15oz) 1 1/2 DH (not DHE), 216639. There are four birds on the floorplate, but they do not prophesize the F 102. There also appears to be some individuality, including some extra strokes, on the gaurd.

Larry I have a DHE 12 with three birds on the floorplate. Serial number is in the 241 range. A quick check showed two DHE 20's one in the 222 range the other 171 and a DHE 12 in the 230 range all with four birds.

Wasn't there a discussion on the number of birds on the floorplate relating to the grade of the gun? D-3, C-4 etc.

Not really Rich - I was just wondering, in that thread, that it should have been so. What would have been easier? - the Grade 2 had two birds on the floorplate and it should have escalated up the grades from there . . . but it didn't until the Grade 5 (B) which often had five birds on the floorplate.
