Sounds like a great day out hunting. Nothing better. By the way, only 4 shots to clip the vines with the 22?.....would've taken me a whole box.

Be careful Charlie, one of those "high capacity" magazines in the ole Ruger could get you in trouble with the Feds.:)

charlie cleveland 01-19-2013 11:34 AM

no need to worry on that my friend owns the 22 ruger.... it was a good hunt but im paying today for looking up all them tall trees..my neck and shoulders are really sore today..i ve took some aleves but they aint helping to much... charlie

Charlie your incorrectly taking the Aleve. The proper dosage is two 200mg tablets washed down with 4oz of your favorite Burbon. I tend to lean towards Jack Daniels :rotf:

Mills Morrison 01-19-2013 07:32 PM

Pound for pound, Jack Daniels is the best. There are some others that are better, but those are very expensive and not cost effective. IMHO

Rich Anderson 01-19-2013 07:35 PM

I have found a substitute that is about the same cost and very good if you can find it. Buffalo Trace is the name of it.

Mills Morrison 01-19-2013 07:51 PM

Pappy Van Winkle is the best bourbon I have tried, but it is very expensive and is getting harder and harder to come by.

As Gracie Allen said

In those days the best painkiller was ice; it wasn't addictive and it was particularly effective if you poured some whiskey over it.

Mills Morrison 01-19-2013 08:16 PM

I am going to remember that. :)

John Dallas 01-19-2013 08:29 PM

Haven't any of you awakened after a long evening and realized that you apparently got a load of bad ice?

Rich Anderson 01-19-2013 09:11 PM

There's no such thing as bad ice:nono:

Mills Morrison 01-19-2013 09:37 PM

No bad whiskey ever came out of Lynchburg, Tennesse.

Rich Anderson 01-20-2013 04:53 PM

I'll second that...I just had some as a matter of fact. The wife and I made a trip south for a vacation and my one and only request was to go to the Jack Daniels distillery. To make a long story shorter they had commerative bottles of their product for sale in about 6 different variations. I told the clerk that I'd take a case, "of which one sir" was the reply "each" was my reply.:glug::cheers:

Mills Morrison 01-20-2013 05:38 PM

I have a bottle of single barrel with my name engraved on it. The best part is the Jack Daniel's ice cream available at the ice cream shop in Lynchburg.

John Dallas 01-20-2013 05:45 PM

Rich - Was there a Red Cross blood donation center in the corner?

Rich Anderson 01-20-2013 05:47 PM

Try this when the car keys are safely tucked away. One part (I say part as I don't know how big your part is:rotf:) Jack D and one part Jack D Honey Gold served over ice. We call it a Honeysuckle Rose it's very good and potent.

Mills Morrison 01-20-2013 05:50 PM

Taking notes . . . :coffee:

Rich Anderson 01-20-2013 05:52 PM

John no I only bled a little as I spread it out over two credit cards:eek: We were visiting some of the Antique shops when an elderly asked me "Wern't you the person who bought all that wiskey?" Yes Mam was the reply then I told her it went well with an old family recipe. She looked confused and then I told her the recipe was for Ice!, and walked away.

I and my father are both Tennessee Squires, the club has a private room at the distillery and other privileges. I've not visited in years but have fond memories. These days I mostly stick with the fruits of Ireland for my whiskey drinking though.

Destry, Which Irish whiskies do you recommend?

I certainly hope he includes Bushmills 16 on his list - that is my "dish to pass" at the Catskills Bamboo Rodmaker's gathering

John Dallas 01-23-2013 09:06 AM

Hmmm. Think I'm gonna start attending the rodmakers convention

Destry L. Hoffard 01-23-2013 12:29 PM

Jameson is a good standard because most decent bars seem to keep it these days. I also like Paddy's, Redbreast, and Powers. For some reason Bushmills leaves me cold, it has a strange aftertaste on my pallet that I just can't handle.

That being said, I've been drinking my way through a bottle of Basil Hayden that I got from a ladyfriend as a Christmas gift. Being as how my mothers family is all originally from Kentucky, the aqua vitae from down that way has a special place in my heart as well.

I have a friend that swears by Redbreast. I have tried Jameson and Bushmills.
