GH or GHE
Just a quich history of my Parker. It was given to me by my uncle when I was 16 years of age, wow 28 years ago. I'm not certain if it was originally owned by my great grandfather, my grandfather or possibly my great uncle Robert. It comes from the mountains of Virginia, the Covesville area specifically. Serial number, matching on all parts, 213445, dates it to 1925, grade 2 GH with Parker special steel barrels. The GH grade has me a bit confused considering it is equiped with auto ejectors. From what I have read, I thought GHE designated barrels equiped with ejectors. Please correct me if I am wrong and maybe help enlighten me if there is a descrepancy in my Parker's markings.
Thank you, Bobby |
A GHE Grade is normally marked GH on the water table, the same as a GH Grade would be marked.

Thank you Bill, that clears it up. My next step will be to get the letter from PGCA. On that note, how in depth are the letters. I know it won't have the original purchaser on record for this grade of gun, but will it possibly have the retailer who sold it as new. That location may help me in confirming its history in my family.

Bobby, please post some pictures of the gun. We'd all like to see it.

Will do, but my recent move, I just discovered, has helped me in misplacing my camera.

I would expect that the lower the grade the more likely a gun was part of a company order- for stock, but even some D's and above show only the company name. I still find it interesting to know that a gun has survived over a hundred years in a small geographical area. |
i think you will only get stock book information.

Hamner in Covesville------ possibly of Earl Hamner fame ?
|
Yes, a distant cousin
|
Any relation to the Phillies' Whiz Kid shortstop Granny Hamner?
|
Lol, I have read books on my family lineage, the most extensive traces the Hamners to Hanmer, Wales in the mid 1700's. The book being roughly 800 pages details many branches of my family, the hard part is to determin the connection. Granny Hamner is mentioned in this book and it is said that if you are listed, you are a distant relation of some sort.
Sorry to bore you with my family history, I realize this is not the platform for it. |

Any relation to Rebecca Hamner, Director of EPA's Office of Water in the mid-to-late 2000's??

Serialization book does show Optional Extras Code - 2 (Ejectors) for your number.

George P. is very correct in stating that no order book information will be available in this serial number range. That means that no purchaser information will be available, only the basic specifications of the gun. As long as we're asking "Hamner" questions, my Commanding Officer in 1969 was Captain George Hamner whose combat unit patch was the 101st Airborne with Ranger stripe. I don't know what other units he had been affiliated with. He was a well repected company officer who sentenced me to purchase a $25.00 ($18.75 net) savings bond after returning from an eleven day questionable leave. I modeled my supervisory career after Captain Hamner for 29 years in the private and government sector. I just googled him for the first time since 1969. I am amazed that I pick my friends so well.

Yes, I thought there would be a limit to the order information regarding this grade. I was just hoping for a bit more provenance.
Captain George Hamner I do not know, but there seems to be a strong military history with the Hamners. My father, navy commander Robert c Hamner sr, grandfather colnoel George c Hamner, and the list goes on. I unfortunately was medically disqualified to serve. Makes me wonder if I would have surpassed my fathers rank by now. I have noticed at least one other Hamner here, Jack Hamner. I wonder if there are more. I am happy my name has helped lead you to fond memories. Bobby |
