Austin Hogans Passing
 

Today at approximately 4:00 pm our dear friend Austin Hogan passed away after a lengthily battle with ALS. Austin was an amazing man and will be dearly missed by many, especially those in the gun collecting community where his contributions were too numerous to mention. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very difficult time. As information regarding funeral services becomes available it will be posted here for those that may wish to pay their last respects.

So very very sad. Today I lost a friend and the PGCA lost a wonderful man. Danny's and my most sincerest condolences go out to Pam and Austin's family. God bless them all..

What sad news this is. Linda and I extend our best wishes to Pam. What a great person Austin was. A true outdoorsman in the American tradition. Such people should live forever.

I did not know him but felt warmth in his posts,....and great intelligence in his words.....Reading "His" edition of Parker Pages I felt and understood the strong feelings of those that knew him....How did he do it all with such grace and calm demeaner?....He held his guns with soft yet strong hands,.with an intense focus in his eye..There are so few of his kind..he stands out with a special aura...the type we all aspire to be...intelligent, egoless and giving...

Thank you Larry for letting us know of Austin's passing. Austin was very special and give freely of his time and talents to the PGCA. He took the Parker Pages to another level and we all should think of him every time we read an article. I really enjoyed working with Austin over the years. We'll miss you Austin.

Austin was one of the first PGCA people I met at my first Southern SxS in 2007. I drove down by myself for the day and met him and others who later became fast friends. His articles were always the first read whether it was DGJ or PP. God bless him.

I was very sad when I received the news of Ausitn's passing during a phone call today. Austin was a treasure to the PGCA, he was always willing to share his knowledge and had a tremendous drive to learn as much as possible about the Parker Gun. He wrote wonderful articles on the Parker Gun and as Editor of the Parker Pages was able to elevate the publication to the highest level.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Pam and his family.

Very sad to hear of Austin's passing, he was one of the good guys... I had the pleasure of meeting Austin in person several years ago at the Vegas gun show, and also had the privilege of working with him many times on the Parker Pages publication... Austin was a gentleman of the first order with a vast knowledge of Parker guns, and also a fellow fly-fisherman without equal, his presence will be sorely missed... My sincere condolences to Austin's family...

I am a better man for having known him. Gods speed Austin.

Very sad news to start the day. I was blessed my first year at the Southern when I arrived there a day early, Weds., and met Austin at the check in at the motel. We were the only Parker people there that day and of course we talked Parkers. He was an Icon to me and I quickly learned that Austin forgot more about Parkers than I will ever know. RIP Austin as my thoughts and prayers go out to Pam and your family.

Austin was a true gentleman. He had a knack of going out of his way to make everyone feel at home and part of the group. I first met Austin at the 2007 Southern. I didn't know a soul except by pictures in "Parker Pages". I was at the five stand, a total newbie, with my first hammer gun. Austin made a big deal of having me pose for a picture and show off my gun. He must have taken hundreds of pictures that day, maybe more. To my utter surprize, he published that photo with my name in the next issue of "Parker Pages". Austin, my friend, rest in peace. Pam and family you are in my prayers.

Very sad news. Don't ask me how, but several years back I had the chance to spend the day with him at Julias, while he examined "Bo-Whoop." At the last minute, that dreaded four-letter "w" word curtailed my plans. How stupid was I? That would indeed have been a day of days, for clearly Austin was one of the few who earned the right to wear the name tag marked, "The Great One."

AUSTIN will be missed by those left behind espically the family and friends... BUT AUSTIN IS REALLY ONLY BEGINNING A JOURNEY ITS US THAT WILL HAVE TO CATCH UP TO HIM..I never met AUSTIN but throughreading his posts here i know i knew him...i think the BIG GUY up there wanted to ask AUSTIN a few questions about PARKER S...TO THE FAMILY THIS IS NOT THE END BUT ONLY THE BEGINNING.... I was late in joining the organization, and never had the opportunity to meet Austin, but always enjoyed reading anything he wrote. I thrive on reading the thoughts of true engineers, but Austin had a simple way of explaining things that could be understood by all. He was a man whose biography would be enjoyed by many. Sadly, we don't seem to be producing men like him any more, and each time we loose one, we take another small step backwards.
ALS is a terrible disease and his extended family can take small comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. Never having met him, it still saddens me that we've lost another great mind.

Like many, I followed Austin in the Parker Pages in his editor role, and also through his articles. We emailed back and forth to coordinate his coverage of Fox Collector events in the PP, and he was always on time, friendly, thorough and organized; qualities I greatly value. Once I helped him ID an obscure early single trigger he had in his parts stash, it was no work really but he thanked me several times. However I never met him until our 2010 Bo-Whoop Long Range shoot at the NE S x S at Hausmann's. I was running the BW shooting butt and Austin came up to me, introduced himself and we talked at length about Foxes and Parkers. He thanked me again on the trigger ID; I had forgotten about it. Coming out of that one meeting my impression of the man was exponentially greater than my already high image of him. Rest in peace Mr Hogan, talking guns and such along with the other sporting arms giants who have passed. My most sincere condolences are extended to the family of this fine man and friend. Frank

I met Austin at one of the early Vintagers as we were trying to get the AH Fox Association off the ground. Austin stopped by our booth and gave us much encouragement and to just talk about Fox guns. Great man who I came to know better through his writings. I loved his article about collecting philosophy---just great stuff. Rest in peace Austin.

Austin Hogan was the first PGCA member to remember my name and to share time and his knowledge about Parker lifters with me. When he became aware I had a background in photography and publishing he sought out and welcomed my participation in the redesign of Parker Pages. That he personally presented a PP contributor pin to me is a very special memory. If the BOD has not yet done so, I encourage them to invest Austin as an Editor Emeritus of Parker Pages and permanently present him as such on the masthead.

Austin Hogan's Passing
 

Austin will surely be missed by all that knew him personally as well as those fellow PGCA members that knew him only through the Parker Pages. His contributions will forever be etched in the minds of his fellow Parker collectors, shooters, and writers. For sure Austin is in "Parker Heaven" and will be looking over us and his family.
Austin, we will miss you my friend! Our prayers and thoughts will be with Pam, your daughter, son, and extended family.

Was off the site for one day and now this terrible news, Austin was as every body has said, a really good man. He did not hesitate to answer any Parker related question, He helped me with many questions about P grade guns, To his family peace and hope, Austin is just starting a new journey even better than his Yellowstone adventure, God can use him!

Everyone who knew Austin was a little better for it. I only met him briefly at a couple of the annual PGCA meetings but he always had time to teach me and he was a true "old school" gentleman. We will all miss him.

I spoke with Pam today and she is aware and very appreciative of all the warm responses from the many people who knew Austin either in person or thru his writings. did not know austin...wish i did...wishing him god's speed and mercy.

It has always been on my list to meet Austin at some shooting event. I likely saw him in the dining hall at McMurdo station on his last trip south as we were there at the same time and I almost got the camp manager job for the station he worked at. A missed opportunity for sure. I really wish I had gotten that job now.

I met Austin in Las Vegas at Beinfeld's, back in the early days of the PGCA. Had him and the boys out for pigeons a couple of times.
I would love to be able to go back and re-live some of those times!

As a new forum member, I am saddened to know I have missed an opportunity to get to know an influential and knowledgeable man in this community. I do, however, look forward to getting to know him through all he has left for us here.
Aware of the struggles they've endured, having lost my mother to ALS, My heart felt sorrow goes to his family in their loss.
