What to do?

New member here. Bought a Remington Parker DHE skeet model and have yet popped a cap. It's up at DelGreco for repair of the gizmo that retains the ejectors. Larry D recommends that he lengthen the chambers to 2 3/4 as long as the gun is up there. A plus for ammo availability, but what about the factor of modifying the gun's originality?
I would appreciate any and all opinions.

A Remington era gun should have 2 3/4 inch chambers. I don't understand why that work is being recommended!

Ted Dean 01-05-2013 08:23 PM

My bad, it is a 20ga, serial # unavailable at present but suggests 1937 manufacture.

Ted Dean 01-05-2013 08:25 PM

An interesting point,to be sure.

My 1936 1&1/2 frame 12ga VHE (Remington) skeet gun has 2&1/2" chambers and that's the way it's staying.

Ted Dean 01-05-2013 09:14 PM

...and the barrells are marked 2 1/2"

Ted Dean 01-05-2013 09:17 PM

Thanks, Blind Dog. Does your VHE digest 2 3/4 shells?

Rick Losey 01-05-2013 09:22 PM

2 1/2 inch shells are readily available. why alter it.

Brian Dudley 01-05-2013 10:46 PM

2-3/4 inch shells in a 2.5" chamber will not have l effect on the gun if the barrels are sound. I am sure your DHE has had several 2-3/4" shells put through it. The lighter ammo is always easier on the guns overall integrity though.

Appreciate the feedback on this issue. I'm certainly not hearing any compelling reason to modify that baby.

I wouldn't touch the chamber length. I have used 2.5 inch shells for everything from skeet and sporting clays to game birds with never a problem if I put the shot where the target is. RST makes a large selection of shells suitable to your new Parker.

I wouldn't alter the chamber length of an original Parker Skeet gun. In my opinion there is no valid reason to do so and it is likely to reduce the gun's value.... but hey, it's your gun.

Ted Dean 01-07-2013 03:47 PM

Thanks to all for your replies. Looks like an order to RST is on the horizon, for 2 1/2" ammo.

George M. Purtill 01-07-2013 04:58 PM

I would not touch it at all.

Rich Anderson 01-07-2013 05:46 PM

Once you use the RST shells you will keep coming back for more.
