Spring Southern SXS 4/26-4/28

All,

The PGCA is eagerly looking forward to this years Spring Southern SXS event in Sandford, NC Thursday 4/25 to Sunday 4/28. We will once again be staying at the Hampton Inn in Sanford, NC. The PGCA has set aside a large room block at this hotel.

The rate is $94 per night. Please mention "Parker Gun Collectors Association" when making reservations to get the group rate.

At the event, we will have display tables available again this year in our tent. We should have approximately 10 tables available for display. The theme hasnt yet been picked (suggestions welcomed!), but the cost of the tables will be a request to donate two memberships for a friend, family member, or Youth member. ($80). Please contact me to reserve your table.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year!

Josh, Daryl and I have booked rooms already, We would like 2 tables in the tent can you confirm? Gary

Josh Loewensteiner 01-12-2013 02:40 PM

I have three tables reserved so far. Gary, Daryl, and David. Keep 'em coming!

Gary Carmichael Sr 01-13-2013 07:57 AM

I was talking to Jim Hall and he came up with what I thought was a great idea for this years theme at the Southern. "Guns with double ivory beads" any grade, hammer or hammerless. We have not done anything like that before and it might bring out some interesting guns! Food for thought! Gary

Rich Anderson 01-13-2013 07:11 PM

Hey I have guns with double Ivory beads:)

I just made reservations. The phone number (so you don't have to google it) is 919-775-2000

Chuck Bishop 01-13-2013 08:25 PM

Parkers with Lyman twin ivory beads are not uncommon at all. $4.00 would get you those ivory beads. They were used on all the grades if so requested including the single barrel trap guns which, as far as I know, were standard equipment.

Rich Anderson 01-14-2013 11:04 AM

What about custom/upgrades? I know Jimm Hall has a fantastic Pachmyer 16ga upgrade.

Rich Anderson 01-17-2013 03:37 PM

Has a theme been decided on yet? How about small bores? Just thinking out loud

George M. Purtill 01-17-2013 03:53 PM

How about 28 gauges- Parker's gauge.

Josh Loewensteiner 01-26-2013 05:22 AM

George,

I like the idea of 28's a lot but it could be too narrow. Not enough guns can be put together for display!

I do like the idea do the double beaded guns as well. Lets pin this down in the next couple of days.

Rich Anderson 01-26-2013 08:46 AM

You could combine the two catagories.

Bill Murphy 01-26-2013 09:52 AM

28 gauge was done in Ohio. There was no shortage of display guns and I even displayed an outrageous cased DHE vent rib 28. Kevin McCormack and I did an over the top Parker .410 display at Baltimore one year, but I don't know if PGCA has done .410s yet. Kevin's display had an Abercrombie and Fitch cased skeet, BHE vent rib, G Grade .410, factory A-1 Special Repro, Geoffrey Gournet engraved A-1 Repro, you name it. For a one table display, it was pretty neat.

Josh Loewensteiner 01-26-2013 09:53 AM

Double beaded 28's? Hahahahaha!

How about we stick with ivory, en mass....?

Bill Murphy 01-26-2013 09:56 AM

I have a couple of three beaded Parkers and another member has at least one. The Gold Hearts gun has three or four beads on the Damascus barrels as I recall, two gold and one or two ivory. I'll have to check.

George M. Purtill 01-26-2013 10:04 AM

How about we just have a Bill Murphy theme? I have a feeling he could just put on a one-man show. He would have to rent an armored car for transport. We might not have enough table space.

Eric Eis 01-26-2013 11:36 AM

I like the 28 ga idea and I think there would be enough 28's for a display.

Josh Loewensteiner 01-26-2013 02:37 PM

Guys,

If we can rally support and guns for 28s it can happen. Just takes a few guys to bring them out.

Daryl Corona 01-26-2013 02:49 PM

OK- I start it off with my two 28's..... VH26" and VHE30" both 00 frames.:bigbye:

Eric Eis 01-26-2013 07:07 PM

D grade 28ga with Damascus barrels... Can also bring VHE skeet gun

Rich Anderson 01-26-2013 07:08 PM

AAHE 28 and VHE 28

Rich Anderson 01-26-2013 07:33 PM

Jent you should put this in the events forum not here.

George M. Purtill 01-26-2013 08:57 PM

Edgar is gonna buy a 28 just for the event.

edgarspencer 01-26-2013 09:35 PM

Really? Maybe I should un-block your number so Sharon can reach me.

Josh Loewensteiner 01-29-2013 07:35 AM

Last call for ideas before this goes to committee.....

Dean Romig 01-29-2013 07:55 AM

I have a couple of 28's, a DHE and a VHE, but no guns with twin ivories (a couple that are missing the rear bead though... does that count?)

Rich Anderson 01-29-2013 08:58 AM

Dean I don't think the catagory was "it should of had twin beads", they both need to be there. :rotf:

edgarspencer 01-29-2013 09:02 AM

While the displays at each of the events I've been to were great to see, none have had either a progression of one grade, largest bore to small, or one bore, progressing from lowest to highest grade. To me, a 'theme' of twin beds is pretty much a snore.

Agreed- twin BEDS is a guaranteed snore.

edgarspencer 01-29-2013 12:38 PM

I'm not going to correct my error, because then NO one will know what George is talking about. Plus, it's just more proof he's stalking me.
Actually, re-reading it, that was a pretty good, albeit accidental, pun. I still think twin BEADS is a pretty esoteric theme.

allen newell 01-29-2013 02:40 PM

why not select a couple of high grades and ask for representative gagues in each grade for your display.

AH (all gagues)
BH (all gagues)
or other select grades and all gagues (eg; AH 12,16,20,28,410) in that grade of Parker

Dean Romig 01-29-2013 05:03 PM

I wonder who might have a .410 AH or AHE

allen newell 01-29-2013 07:10 PM

Dean, perhaps it would not be likely to find an AH 410 ga. gun for display. You could say the PGCA wants to display a selection of all gagues in grade CH and DH or whatever Parker grades the Committee would likely to be able to find a representative sample gague gun in those grades you wish to display. It would be wonderful to see a sample of all ga.'s in a particular grade (s). Has this been done before? Just a suggestion.

Dean Romig 01-29-2013 10:15 PM

I know we have members who's collections are made up of just such Grade representations.

Maybe Parker No. 241576 will come out of hiding for this event... and, being a skeet gun it might even have twin ivories

Eric Eis 01-30-2013 11:16 AM

So what is the display....? I think 28 ga's would be nice or if you want skeet guns or do C's or whatever, but twin bead guns....no:nono:

Bill Murphy 01-30-2013 12:17 PM

Dean brought up a good point. Where is .410 AHE Skeet #241,576? I haven't seen it since it sold. Dean and I are lucky to share some pictures. Gary Carmichael for several years displayed his vertical collection of P Grades. It is the only one of this type I had seen. I hope this collection is still in one piece today, but I doubt it. If it is, I would be glad to add my marked P Grade lifter to the display. I doubt that even our hero, Gary, had one of those.

Daryl Corona 01-30-2013 12:32 PM

I'd also be happy to add my P 20- the last one to leave Meriden.

Dave Purnell 01-30-2013 02:45 PM

I think a good display would be the "un-ducumented Parkers", the missing link so to speak.

Mark Ouellette 01-30-2013 03:23 PM

An excellent idea from Elliot Island!
