I have a deposit on a new hunting partner to be...I'll be picking her up in Mid-January and during the following months will be introducing her to upland hunting/training. She is a Tri-color English Springer Spaniel!

Haven't thought of a name as yet but she is a surprise Christmas gift to my girlfriend and myself, of course...wish me luck with her in the coming months!

Mills Morrison 12-14-2012 01:00 PM

Congratulations!

Good looking pup with nice colors. Springers are great dogs.

Good looking pup, I hope she trains you well.:rotf:

Daryl Corona 12-14-2012 08:47 PM

Like they say.... Hunting without a dog is just an armed walk in the woods. Nice puppy. Enjoy ever minute afield with your new springer. Good luck.

Dean Romig 12-14-2012 09:16 PM

What a pretty girl! She looks like she will love the hunt.

Robert Rambler 12-15-2012 07:29 AM

Great hunting dogs, enjoy the days afield with her.:)

Not an "actual" hunt, but today was the first time off leash for my little Springer girl at the pheasant hunting site...no birds around but a good workout and the end result, a tired but happy pup!
I so, look forward to the coming season...I think she's gonna be a natural!

Gordon...that's what I thought...couldn't recall the breed name...she's quite the looker and I would imagine, the hunter as well!

Stephen Hodges 03-14-2013 11:44 AM

Gordons are a beautiful dog:)

Paul Plager 03-18-2013 08:33 AM

Haha...you're right!

Her name is "Bela" (pronounced b-a-y-l-a)

I named her after my favorite musician Bela Fleck (even though he's a guy, it sounded like a good name to me...) :)
Plus, her name is the 1st 4 letters of my last name, and close to "Belle" my last hunting dog of many moons ago...

So there you have it!

Paul Plager 03-20-2013 09:19 PM

Makes perfect sense to me.

Bela at 8 months

Thought I'd post this latest, picture of my 8 month old, girl...most days, for her, are a combination of running around our "new" acreage in the Lakes Region of NH, splashing through runoff engorged brooks...smashing through thickets, happily chasing the Robins and a myriad of "grub moths" that kick up and fly erratically as we walk along in our rough, five acres of mowed grass...jumping at low hanging branches of birch leaves and pine needles that dangle enticingly out of reach...all with a few short sessions of training thrown in...nothing major yet in the way of hunt training...need to go through a first season to see how her natural instincts are before I decide which training route to take...

She drifted off to sleep shortly after this was taken...hopefully, she is contemplating, in a dog's way, what a good life she has and is dreaming of the next day's adventures, be they on land or merely, sitting in the passenger seat with her nose in the breeze. She is a good dog and I am blessed to be accompanying her on our time together on this beautiful place we call Earth.

Dean Romig 07-26-2013 01:38 PM

She sure is pretty! Did you get her locally? Kathy is in the mood for another dog... and to my way of thinking a bird dog is the only way to go.

Stephen Hodges 07-26-2013 01:54 PM

As others have said, she is just beautiful. And welcome to the Lakes Region. We should get our dogs together sometime for a run. I am in Gilford:)

Dean,
North Stratford, NH, a older lady/breeder.

Her house is a bit unkempt, not a kennel in the "true" sense but she loves her dogs and has some lovely, Springers that produce some beautiful, pups...honestly, I don't know how she does it all alone...her husband passed about 7 years ago in a car accident and this is how she ekes out a living.

Definitely, a labor of love managing a few breeding pairs of dogs...

Her name is Elaine Dunkerly...here's a link:

Love to...I'm now in Hill, between Franklin and Bristol.

Franklin Falls Flood control area is one of the largest pheasant release sites in the state (5 release sites)
I have to go to F&G to get a map of where the release sites and hunting areas are...pretty vague on the info from the F&G website...

Stephen Hodges 07-26-2013 03:16 PM

Ron, my Dad is from Hill, and I have been hunting the flood control area for longer than I would care to think about. We will get together and I can give you a tour of release sites.

I am free most days...retirement has it's benefits!

PM me any time.

Dennis V. Nix 07-27-2013 05:46 PM

Beautiful puppy. I know you will both enjoy each other's company.

Dennis
