New Years Day Shoot
I want to check in and see how many folks are interested in getting together on New Years Day 2013 in Barrington NH for a regional PGCA fun shoot as we have done in the past. Sound off if you would like me to open up the skeet and trap fields at the Major Waldron Sportsmans Association.
|
Thanks for asking Pete.
As for myself, due to other obligations, I would only be able to make it if it were held on the weekend before New Year's Day. And I believe the following weekend is taken up by a show. (for me anyhow) |
Pete, New Years being on a Tuesday makes it hard for Danny and I to make it up there. What with work and all. We really hate to miss this great day but the logistics are a problem.
|
Dave and Dean I certainly understand the logistics of traveling any distance is made more difficult with work on either side of the holiday.
The idea of NYD shoot started in 2009 when the holiday fell on Thurs, the following year on Friday. On those days the club facilities were dormant so scheduling such an event was simple to do. Last year the holiday fell on a Sunday and the club agreed to cancel it's scheduled Sunday Skeet shooting to accomodate us. Major Waldron's has an active group of trap shooters on Sat mornings and an active group of Skeet shooters on Sun Mornings. When we interrupt the scheduled shooting we could cost the club lost revenue unless our atendance is great enough to equal or exceed normal operations. It would be my preference to not interfere with the club's normal shooting schedule unless turn out is going to be strong and I am not sure how to predict that. Finally, there is/was something special (to me anyways) of having held it on NYD as a way to ring in/celebrate the start of new year. |
i will be there if its a go.:corn: scott

Merry Christmas, we are one week away from NYD 2013. For those who are interested I will open the trap and skeet fields at Major Waldron's Sportsmans Association in Barrington NH for NYD Parker shoot, 1/1/2013.
Shooting can start at 9AM with a goal of having everyone shoot at least 2 rounds of skeet and two rounds of trap, hopefully more. Mid-Day if there is interest we can once again try a modified "Protection" with a 10ga backing up a smaller bore on each team from the 27 yard line, OR we can all line up and try to put each other out of the game in what called an "Elimination". An Elimination is very fun with 3 or 4 gunners at a time shooting a 27 yard bird in trap. If the man on the left who called pull hits it he is safe, if he misses and the next man hits it he is out. However if the first man hits the target and the 2nd man shoots the 2nd man is out. Another scenario, first man shoots and misses, 2nd man shoots and hits and then 3rd man shoots, both 1st and 3rd men are out. This goes on until only 1 man is left. Clear as mud right, it's great fun, usually lots of laughs and I know how to referee it. In the past we have been treated to guns ranging from Trojans to an A1S owned by Robin Lewis. John Dunkle once brought his storied AAHE trap gun. Last year Frank Cronin and his rolling thunder 5 frame 10ga hammer gun shooting heavy black powder loads shook the grounds. last year we have had an orginal Parker-Snow musket in the gun rack. There will be coffee and steamed dogs, more food if people bring entree's as they have in the past. It's New Year's Day and a great day to look at Parkers, talk about Parkers and make some Parker's go bang. Directions to the club are here: http://www.majorwaldron.com/web/about/index.htm |
should be fun and looks like the ducks will have a break from our great shooting too ,:shock:LOL scott

John, what a great way for Mary to get to know some more of the people who hang out on the PGCA Forum and a great way for people to meet Mary. She is simply the best!

I just got a call about an hour ago from my grandson. He asked if tomorrow I could teach him to shoot the bow I gave him for Christmas. I think you all know what my answer to him was.... Grandkids always come first!!
I'd love to be with you all at Major Waldron's tomorrow to burn some powder, fondle Parkers and have some laughs but I think every one of you'd make the same decision. Have fun - I know I will! |
get someone to video some of that Dean- he'll love having it when he gets his first Pope and Young
Spent yesterday with the Grandaughters, Parkers are fun but nothing beats seeing two little bundles of love running at you yelling "grandma grandpa" when you walk through the door. |
I know that feeling very well Rick. With three granddaughters and one grandson I am truly blessed.
|
well any pics, i didn't see alot with 2 fields running and great food to eat. scott

The New Years Day Shoot for 2013 is in the record books. Weather was peek a boo sun, cold and breezy making for an occasional low or high flying target. We shot skeet, trap, an elimination and 10ga backing up a smaller bore protection.
The elimination wound up with Bob Fabian and his NH against Glen Watts with a 12ga VH, it seemed like it would never end as both shooters missed a long string of 27 yard targets. Bob finally pointed his 10ga where it belonged and sent Glen to 2nd place (hey it's what short tens do). In the 10ga backup a pair of great Parkers (and a couple of OK guys), John Dunkle shooting his great grandfathers AAHE trap gun and Frank Cronin shooting his 5 frame hammer 10ga with his signature ground shaking black powder 1 1/4 target loads, bested other 8 shooters. Including a pair of cheaters who snuck to the line with both of them having a 10ga. Only a few shooters braved the cold and Scott Kittredge bested Bob Fabian (see cheater in above paragraph) for an overall high gun. Pictures will be added here as I go shortly. |

While Pete put's up the pics - I just wanted to hop into this thread and send a HUGE THANK YOU to Peter for organizing it - and all who brought food, laughs and great conversation to this New Years Day Parker Shoot... It was simply outstanding...
I'll post more as folks leave themselves open to ridicule..??? ;) HEH!!! Seriously - thank you to all the folks!!! (AND - BTW - in the 10GA Backup event, Peter warned me I'd better hit those 27 YD targets, or I'd suffer Frank touching off that 10 GA next to me... While Frank only had to back-up my misses on occasion - my ears are still ringing..?? ) John |

John Dunkle and the Beauty. I hope you like the second picture John, I wish the camera had caught the bird but the cold made it very hard to take pictures with a long delay. Great photo of you and grand dads gun though.
