Charlie, I have looked at gunshows all across the country, for them never seen them. I would not say they did not make them since they made several 8 ga guns in all grades. If you found one it would be the holy grail of shell collectors! Gary

At the Easton, MD Waterfowl Festival Decoy Swap & Sell meet in early Nov. of this year, a major shotshell collector/dealer showed a sealed 2-pc. box of 8 ga. Arrow #5 shot, I believe they were 3 1/4 inch, 4 1/2 dram loads. Asking price was $425, said he would take $400 for them. The original paper seal on the box had been opened, but all 25 shells were correct to the label. The box was wrapped and sealed with heavy cellophane, guaranteed to be right. First intact box of 8 ga. shells correct to the label I have seen in many years.

Kevin, I have a unopened box of Remington Arrow 8s; 5 1/2 drams, 1 3/4 ounces of No. 6 chilled shot. The shells came with my 36" PH. Kind of a near "throw in".

Two sealed boxes of Arrow eights came in the trunk case of my bar in wood Westley Richards. I bought that gun about 1971 from the Sportsman in Bethesda, Maryland. The price was $635.00. Minty eight bores were not so collectable back then. I advertised the shells for sale in the Shotgun News for $250 a box and accepted $450 for the two boxes from a midwest collector. I have no idea why I thought they were worth so much, because I knew nothing of shell values.

A very late, 1920s, Remington Arms Co., Inc., empty Arrow 8-gauge two-piece box went for $130 in the just completed Wards Auction.
https://www.wardscollectibles.com/vi....php?item=1157 Which ammo companies provided 8-gauge shells? I've seen mostly UMC or Rem-UMC and a handful of Winchesters. Never a Peters or a Western. A brass Parker 10A went for $32 and a Brass Parker 12A went for $17. |
i also have a nice box of the 8 ga remington arrow shells...think my wife gave 450 for the box a few years ago for my christmas present...and have several odd brands of 8 ga shells but ive never seen a parker brothers paper 8 ga shell or a brass parker brothers 8 ga...would love to see one if they made them... charlie

WRA
My Scott was built around 1876 and I honestly don't know when Parker started building 8 gauges. I bet you do Charlie.
They used a lot of guns to test cartridges. They often were marked. Mine has WRA engraved on the rib. I have an upcoming article in PP about Parkers they bought and used to test shells. Sometimes blowing them up on purpose. I have serial numbers of those Parkers as well. |
WRA Test Bank guns
They used a Scott 24 gauge as well.
